Car Seats for Dogs

Dog Car Seat - Our dog Tessa feels safe and comfortable when she rides in her car seat. Better yet, I can concentrate on my driving and not worry about her trying to get in my lap or hitting the windshield when I hit the brakes!

Our dogs have car seats. Sounds silly I know. They love to be able to look out the window (they are short). I love that they are tethered and safe while they are in the car. I was wondering, how many of you use some sort of safety device for your dogs when they are in the car with you? Be it a seatbelt, leash or crate.

It is NOT SILLY TO HAVE YOUR PET IN A CONTROLLED ENVIROMENT WHILE DRIVING. When my dog/ pet is in my car/ truck, they are in a place where they are protected if anything, an accident, happens. All you have to do is ask a Vet or the Humane Society about how many animals are injured, put down while in a vehicle not in a safe place. Dogs with faces hanging out windows, insects, birds and articles hit the animal at speeds and serious things do happen... REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/CARE/TRAIN/PROTECT YOUR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U..

I got the name Bad Daddy from my wife. We had a Boxer named Blue, my wife's suckie. My wife could tell him anything, when I said the word no to him he would sulk, run away from me and pout. My wife would say Bad Daddy and he would perk up as if to say to me I tolk you I was right. By the way I train dogs obediance , guard( security ), tracking and agility work..

That is so cute! You're wife must've gotten a good chuckle out of that manipulative mutt :P Our new dog is SUPER submissive... the other day he got in a fight with our female (older) dog... she probably started it over a chewie, she's a bossy.. um.. "female dog"... Anyway, my boyfriend yelled at them and they scattered... since then the new guy watches my bf like a hawk. He follows me around constantly... I think my BF's a little jealous (but that's ok, the female dog was mine before we got together, now my bf is her god lol). We've only had him a week, he IS coming out of his shell... but he's the wimpiest terrier I've ever met! I went to college for horse and dog training... so I'm probably going to post a LOT about animals (already have lol)... you should probably "friend" me to keep me in line lol

Hi Kelly Gwen. Welcome to myLot. I'm sure you'll soon be spending many happy hours here. I love dogs but I don't have one. I travel too much. I wouldn't be able to take a dog with me and I don't like the idea of boarding them. If I did travel with a dog I would investigate a harness which could be clipped onto a seat belt or anchored somewhere, allowing the dog the freedom of a little movement. Here in Australia we see numerous utes and 1 tonne trucks with a tray back with a dog chained or loose on the tray. Many tray backs are aluminium, which in our climate can be almost too hot to touch, and yet dogs are left there. I'm sure many of them come to grief.

It amazes me that people just don't think! Hot surfaces... or shutting their dogs in a car on a hot day... If I wouldn't want it to happen to me I won't do it to my dogs!! (with the exception of a few "dog necessary" things)

That's so sad for those poor pups. People just don't think sometimes.

When I had dogs, I did not. They were on a leash for when we got out of the car. My cats travel in carriers. But it doesn't sound silly to have your dogs restrained. If something were to happen they could get thrown around pretty badly if they weren't.

I don't have one either but then I seldom take Ally in the car with me and as for the cats, well I refrain from taking them anywhere.

Our dog has a seat belt, she's big enough to be able to sit and look out the window and with her seat belt on sch can also lay down.

Hmmm, that's a good idea. I would love to have better protection for my dog.

My dogs and cats are my family and anything I can do to keep them safe is worth it.
