Is big brother watching us?

My partner refuses to use bank cards or credit cards to pay for things. He hates putting his cash in the bank, and he would never set up a direct debit, for bill payments to come out automatically... and why you may ask???? Well the truth is, he says that by using credit/debit cards, and having money in the bank and paying bills like that through the bank, it means that big brother (meaning the goverment), is watching us and seeing what we are spending our money on. It is the same with our computers, he feels that by using a computer the goverment can keep an eye on what we are doing. Do you think he is paranoid, or do you think he has a point about being watched by big brother???

I feel that he is right in what he says, the government is watching everything that we do. They watch what we're watching on tv, by the ratings that broadcasting companies report. They watch our phone calls from landlines and sometimes our mobile calls and text messages to see who we're communicating with and why. They watch our Internet activity to ensure that we are using it correctly. With all that being said, I have NO clue why they can't catch major criminals lol. But, to completely shun yourself from these activies just BECAUSE the government is watching, is a bit much. Debit cards and things of that nature are becoming the way of the world and who wants to keep their entire life savings inside a nice home you've built for yourself in a safe just to have your house burn down and lose everything??? Or to have some selfish burglar break into your home and take what's yours?? That's something to think about!

Yes it something to think about, and I have told him many times about this, but he will only use cash... I don't think that he will have much choice in years to come, I think that cash will be a thing of the past, and debit cards will take over. I forget to mention his cell phone. he actually hates the fact that he has to have one, he told me he would rather throw it in the river. Thanks for your response!

Hi Rosie, I think he is right we are monitored everywhere, for example I have to shop at Tesco as they have a monopoly but because I have a clubcardif I go online to order key in my clubcard all the itmes I usually buy in store come up as my favourites so theyknow my shopping habits. They can tell how many people are in a house because of water and electricity usage a lot of the time too. Computers are the worse. In fact I done a search for my name and it came up that I was looking for a house exchane, I am notbut a friend was and used my email address to registeras she didn'thave a computer, it came up that I had petitoned the government over certain things, mobiles can be montoritered so therefore your movement can. Oh Big Brother is certainly watching us. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie... Yes I think they are too, but there is nothing that we can do about it, so I guess we should just get on with life regardless of what they do. As I said to Hatley above... he is very angry with our government because of the debt that this country has, and he says that they will make us pay for it eventually even though they caused it themselves. I do tend to agree with him on that, but there is nothing that we can do, I think we just have to accept it and get on with our lives in the hope that we won't be made to suffer.

hi rosie If a person has nothing to hide then why the heck care 'as there are ways of finding out any information one may want on any of us all the time. I do not even care as life is too short to be constantly worrying about big brother or sister or whatever. Just trying to keep oneself above water and pay our bills and feed and clothe ourselves should be enough to worry about, so why worry about banks and computers. Yes he is being paranoid as if there'sany way to get info on any of us,someone will get it and so what? I have no time for that stuff anymore,I want to live while I am alive and its not living to be worried sick all the time. I have done nothing to be ashamed of so why should I even are?

I agree... he does not have anything to hide, but he just has a lot of hatred for our government at the moment, and I think this is to do with his paranoia with been watched. Me personally I only really use cards, as it is easier, and bank accounts I have most of my bills paid out of there when they are due, mainly because I am a forgetful person, and it is a lot easier this way. I don't care who watches what I spend my money on, after all it is my money and I have every right in spending it just how I see fit. Also I do not like to carry cash around, as I always feel that maybe I could get robbed and then I would have nothing, whereas with my cards they are pretty safe, as long as my pin number is not known by anyone other than me!

i dont see it that way because i think the government is too busy taking care of others things to watch everything we are doing. for me, it is best to save money in the bank because it has interest.when you withdraw the money that you have placed in the bank is not the same amount, it is higher than the exact money you save. if he doesn't want to , he can placed it in a cooperative.

I pretty much feel just like your friend, I mean we can see that everything is going that route nowadays, we can see that the "big brother" is aiming full control for the society. The funny thing is that everything they do, they show us, in subliminar ways, because they believe that if they tell us what they are going to do, they have bigger chances in succeeding in their goals. For example, here in Brazil, we can see outdoors and banners everywhere with the "All seen Eye" (the big brother eye) I mean thats big time investment for a company to put outdoors like that for no reason, just to have that image there in our face everyday we pass by. Everything is happening right in front of our eyes, I dont know how far could I go with my knowledge regarding this conspiracies in this website, but I would be pleased to share everything that I know about the New World Order

Well that is the first i've heard of that. In a way he is right but i think he may be taking it overboard. I don't think the government is paying attention to anyone in particular unless they have reason to suspect something. If they did pay attention to everyone, i think they'd need to hire more people because there is no way to watch that many people. Now if he had things to hide or the government was suspicious of something they'd probably be watching your activities but I think that really you are fine and 'Big Brother' is looking the other way lol :)

Maybe he has bad experiences when using bank services. For example, In my country, Indonesia, there are many cases of loosing our money in the bank. Recently, last two month six local bank in Indonesia loos hundreds million rupiahs due to theft. Dozens of customer account loss their money in bank account mysteriously. This make some of them trauma to save their money in the bank. For reason if government can watch us, I think that is unfounded reasons. Perhaps your partner doesn't know how does bank work. Customers account is secrete, even if police want to make investigation on it. Before there is no crime indication, bank won't open the secrete for police. I think your friend need to know about it, or he does? Then, I think he just paranoid.
