Camping out all night to see the first screening of a film...

June 23, 2010 2:13am CST
With the new Twilight film coming out I have been seeing stories on the news of people travelling miles and camping out all day and overnight in the hope that they will be able to get in to see the first screening. One woman apparently travveled 10/12 hours each way to do this! I am a Twilight fan but there is no way I would ever do this. The film wont change from the original screening to perhaps a week later so why do people do this? Would you do this or have you even done this? What are your thoughts?

There is no way I would do that and I can't honestly see the point when the film is going to be there afterwards, it's the same when new games come out, my son's friend queued all night to get the new COD when it came out last year. My son pre-ordered his from Amazon and it arrived on the day of release!! The last time I queued for a long time was when I was about 14 and I queued outside Manchester TV studios to see 'The Monkees'!!!

Yes, Amazon are very good with pre-release stuff. My kids ordered the Harry Potter books and they arrived on the day of release which makes much more sense than queueing all night at a bookstore!!

Hi, elfbwillow Nope, I would not do anything like that. In fact, if I really want to watch a popular movie, I would not watch it on the first day. I would wait for a few days to avoid the crowd. If the movie is really good and a lot of people watch it, I can even wait until the second week. It is not important for me to be one of the first people to have watched a particular movie. Cheers!

I saw a report about this on the news today and I too wondered why people would do this. I gathered that the stars of the film were actually going to appear so that may explain why these folks would camp out all night! Surely if it is just to see the film they could wait until it’s showing at the theatre! I don’t know if the stars showed up or not, I hope for all those devoted fans that they did!

I could never see myself wasting my time to camp out all night for a movie. The movie will still be there. What is the rush? If it were tickets for a Bon Jovi concert, it would be a different story!

I am a Twilight fan too, but no, I wouldn't do this. I am happy to wait for a while or even to get the DVD if I can't get to see it at the cinema. I haven't waited overnight for anything, but I remember queueing early one morning to get tickets for a Madonna concert I went to in 1987. Also my husband went to Toys R Us in the middle of the night to queue for the new Teletubbies soft toys. This was around 1997 or 1998 when my daughter was mad on the Teletubbies!

Overnite no ways.I love to sleep. When there is a hit movie it is going to stay for quite sometime in theatres. Why take so much of pain.If we go after some days we get the tickets in less rate also. Its like save money and save time ha.ha.

NO I don't see myself camping out just to see a movie. I do like the Twilight series and would like to see Eclipse, but will probably wait a week or so to avoid the crowds. I did however get to the theater early to get Harry Potter tickets when Half Blood Prince came out, but still wouldn't have traveled a long distance and camped out for it. I just didn't want the hassle of standing in line to get tickets, so I picked them up early, picked up a friend and got back to the theater and found good seats while everyone else was buying tickets.

I was never crazy over shows. i did watch a few premier screenings but I am not that desperate to camp out. anyway, you can book tickets in advance using the internet and there is no need to camp out. Anyway, New moon was not so great. I do not know whether Eclipse will also be below expectation.

I can't really imagine myself doing such thing. It's kind of funny, but I guess there are also some use for it, like having a blood drive to contribute mainly to the Red Cross. I guess it was part of the release of the movie that may sound like an over-reaction, but on the other side, they will get to help other people too. Not bad now eh?
