The Android and The Iphone

This is not a discussion on what one is better then the other. This is about when one decides to get a certain smart phone, whether there is a great movement to dissuade you from getting it. I found that if the person has an iphone, he will say "well I got one, it's quite good, etc." but when the person has an Android or one of the other brands, that person tries to convince one not to get the Iphone, etc. It is as if one made a bad decision to get the Iphone and not the other brand. And it is not about those who are for cheaper cell phones that are only for talking and messaging against smart phone owners. So when you made your decision to get a certain smart phone, were others trying to get you to try another brand?

Owning a cell phone and choosing a provider is a very polarizing experience for many people, they either love their service and their phone, or hate their service and their phone. Since mobile phones are such a common product, people are willing to talk about what they have and how great it is, and compare it to what you might have. The iPhone and the Android are two birds of the same feather - costing about the same price and offering the same features (I know that statement's bound to cause trouble) - the only difference between one and the other is network availability. Interestingly enough, most people will try to convince you to get one phone or the other based on the equipment, never on the network - which when it comes to either phone - network is everything. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter which phone you choose - for some, it comes down to the network you started with, but no matter what, the phone you use at night is the best phone in the world. Why? because when you use your phone, you really don't have any basis of comparison.

Here in Canada, Rogers has the largest network and I never had any trouble with it. I do feel the phones are about the same, but for me, being with a provider that is larger is much better then being with one that is more popular. Also I want a cellphone that I can use out of the country or rather out of North America. (I intend to get an iphone 4 or 5 eventually and those they can take out the sim card and put another one in.) The thing about the Iphone is that it does not have a separate keyboard attached to it, the keyboard is found by pressing it as is the other stuff, the messages, mail, etc. For me, touching a screen and having the keyboard come up is better then turning over the cellphone and in my case, typing and dialing by mistake. However I do not like the idea of people trying to persuade me to buy their brand based not on what it can do, but because of their hostility to Apple.

Apple fans feel the same way about the Android, and vice versa - it's silly sometimes, but akin to how people feel about sporting teams - it's "My team this...and my team that..." On one hand, it's good for us in the industry that people are so enamored by their cell phones, but on the other hand, sometimes people don't consider the entire picture when it comes to buying a cell phone. I used to ask people "What do you want to do with your iPhone?" and invariably, the reply would be "I want to be able to do the apps, and want to use it for email, and get directions". Seriously? You just described every phone that I have with each provider.

Well, I've had my iPhone since they came out, and nobody has really tried to convince me to replace it. However, my sister was going to get a Blackberry and ended up with an iPhone and a friend decided on an iPhone too when she replaced her phone. I don't know if anyone tried to change their minds, but that's what they have too...

Most of it is that there is only two providers who provide the format supported by the Iphone. And most of them use Telus because it originated in Alberta and not in Ontario. Those who do not use the Mts which is our main telephone service. And there are Virgin Mobile, but the smart phones they support are not supported world wide. Not that I am going anywhere but if I were, I would be in much better shape with my Iphone then one of the others.

Here it is Rogers and Fido and they are both joined together, except that Rogers has a larger network.

hi suspenseful long time no see. I think I must be one of the few left in the Us who do not have a cellphone of some kind, let alone a smart phone. The smartphone sounds like an excellent idea I must admit. But for me it would not have much use. I think that when it comes to any kind of purchase there are other people trying to get you to buy a different and usually its much more expensive. he he.

Actually it is not about getting me to buy the most expensive smartphone, it is getting me to buy a certain brand or rather not to get an Apple Iphone. Most smartphones are expensive. I have no idea whether the Android is more or less expensive then the Iphone, but I find the Iphone easier to use and it suits me, being more of a visual person. Whereas with the other cellphones, they have this keyboard attached to the phone so if you want to text, you have to turn it over to the other side.

It is the are you for or against Apples. I get a lot of do not buy an Apple product, but then when I see that they have this teenie little keyboard attached to a cellphone, and you can press some of the keys and get off a message accidentally, I am glad I have my iphone. It goes into a sort of sleep mode after one minute where I can hear a ring or a ringtone, but I have to push open the phone. The other one I had was not an iphone and I had to press a button, the first screen came on and then there was a message "do you want to turn it on," Then if I put it in my purse and something touched the keys, it would put out xxx's or it would touch the receive message part. Luckily I had not asked for messages, but if I had---
