Having posted a discussion on the movie "Moon" which I saw for the first time this week on DVD,I thought then to post on the subject of Robots in Movies..How do you feel about them, and how do you regard the treatment of them in Movies You've seen? Do You like to see the visionary portrayal of how things could be with Robots in the future,or do you feel they are a Cautionary message? Have you a favourite Onscreen Robot? and Why? Having just watched "Moon",GERTY is on my mind, but there are many examples of screen 'bots that come to Mind.."Silent Running"'s Drones,Kryten from "Red Dwarf",Gort....

there are loads of good - and some very bad - robot movies are you talking just the traditional mechanical type robots, even those who look humanoid or can we talk constructs like Edward Sissorhands? http://www.onlygoodmovies.com/blog/movie-megalists/top-85-robot-movies/

I have to say that looking at the list, there are some there I'd really like to see - some see again... I HATE seeing that Peter Cushing take on Doctor Who, first because Daleks (and Cybermen) are more like Borgs than like REAL robots. in fact, Borgs are more like robots than Daleks are, tho Daleks are united in their conquest, they are also systematically dangerous, where Borgs are only dangerous if threat is sensed...

I grew up with the "Original" Dr Who series, with a fondness for Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker in the Role..(Giving my Age away..) I have seen the Peter Cushing Movie way back on TV,remembering Bernard Cribbens in that, and liking how they've brought him in to the current series! I'd need to take another look at that Movie,as I don't recall offhand anything "Off" about the Daleks in that outing..Are You saying Cybermen and Daleks are being portrayed as robotic, rather than as Cyborgs?

well, yeah, technically they are cyborgs, because they have an organic brain - but probably in part because most people can't get past the first law of Robotics... so they have to be more than a machine to be evil...
