Every half hour or so, beginning this morning, a little pop-up appears saying "You can now get the new version!" I have no friggin' idea what this is but it wants me to download it. I have tons of protection on my PC and this stupid thing should NOT be able to annoy me. Does anyone know what it is?!

Hi, The reason for this is a very specific software that is installed in your PC. The most hapless thing is that somehow it got itself listed in start up. Every time you connect to the internet this software checks if there is a newer version available. Now it has found a newer version and noted the fact. So every time you start your computer this software starts up and prompts you to download the new version. What you have to do is that you have to identify the application. To do this go to, Start=Run Here type msconfig and hit ENTER. System Configuration Utility will open. Press Startup tab. There is a list of all programs that are running on the startup. Identify the one that is causing the problem. Uncheck it, disable the corresponding service, or uninstall the application. Thanks. God bless you

Thank you for the help! I finally managed to hit it just right with my mouse and found out that my anti-virus, Panda Cloud (the best I've ever found!) was trying to tell me there was a new version available. I haven't yet been able to get it to download but I'll manage it sometime today.

I have never had my antivirus do that to me, not as a pop-up. As I stated in this conversation my friend had the same thing and ended up being a virus. So just be careful.

Phew! That was easy. Things could get lot worse if it hadn't been your antivirus and some other application instead. You would have to carry out some search and destroy operation. That would be difficult. Great news indeed.

I've had the same thing happen and you're right, it doesn't give you any clue as to what it is for.

This particular one turns out to be trying to tell me that my antivirus has a new version I can download. I paniced at first, thinking my Panda Cloud antivirus had missed something but thank goodness it hadn't!

When we get those it is usually one of our current programs asking to be updated or renewed. Usually means they want more money.

I finally found out that's what it was. It bothered me that it didn't identify itself, though. You can never be too careful these days!

I use Firefox & the pop-up blocker has been reporting it is blocking quite regularly today & I was wondering why I was getting more pup-ups than normal. Maybe this explains it!!! So, no I can't explain to you why it's happening; but THANK YOU for explaining it to me!!!

I didn't know Firefox had a popup blocker--good! This turns out to be from my Panda Cloud free antivirus (which I love!) so I managed to get the new version. I wish it would have identified itself, though, would have saved me a lot of worry!

Check your internet settings. Do you have pop-up blocker on? You need to, also make sure your firewall is on. Set your internet to medium-high in both places and you should be okay after that.

I have my pop-up blocker on and my security set as you said. I can't figure out why it's able to get through!

So the pop-up was from..task-bar.....and not from the browser.. happy to hear that you solved..the issue... most programs esp Antivirus checks for updates when connected online... antivirus usually checks for new virus database/newer version of the program itself. browsers(firefox) checks for updates on addons/newer version of program itself other freeware and sharewares also checks for their updates... you can disable(and do it manually) this checking most often....but better not to esp..antiviruses.. thanks for the topic... have a great day/night.....

I've never seen a popup that didn't identify itself in some way. I should have recognized the color scheme but I didn't. Thanks for you comments! The one that drives me absolutely nuts is Firefox, they seem to have a new version every few days!

I'm getting the same pop up and it is very annoying. Blue pop up in the bottom right corner of screen with no identifying information on it. It only says... "you can now get the new version!" and asks me to download now. I have 3 anti-virus programs running and pop up blocker set to max. Still trying to figure out what it is and how it can pop up on my screen. Bruce
