Ever dreamed of traveling the world for FREE by becoming a Flight Attendant?

I like the job of flight attendants, they get PAID to see the world. Now, how cool is that? I am aspiring to become one, just waiting for the right time and my 'big break'. Anyone here who shares the same aspiration as me?

When I arrived in Canada at Vancouver Airport I walked over to the collect the luggage area. I got talking to a man that had been a flight attendent on the flight I had been on. He said he would be in Vancouver for just three nights. He told me he had worked for a Japanese airline before the British airline. He had visited lots of places in the Far East. He liked South America most of all. It can he a job where a person can travel for free as part of his or her work. It is about serving passengers on the plane. It is offering tea and coffee plus giving out dinners. Some flights are long and the staff walk up and down the plane for 12 hours. I wouldn't wish to be a flight attendent. I love to travel for leisure and not work. I am able to spend three weeks in Canada and the flight attendent got just two or three days.

I agree with you, maxine. It´s a very tiring work and many times you would have a jet lag that wouldn´t help you make the most of those few days. Take care!

I love to travel but never really wanted to be a flight attendant but I wanted to respond to give you another option. Have you ever thought of working on a cruise ship? I've only been on one cruise but got to know some of the staff quite well, many of whom have worked for the cruise lines for 5 years or more. I'm told that they have a mirror image ship below deck. They have their own casino and restaurant. When the ship docks in port and they have the same opportunity to take the same tours that the passengers have. One particular man that I met was a young man about 25 or 26 from Jamaica. He had been all over the world. Another option is to work in some capacity on a freighter. They take passengers as well but there aren't the luxuries that a passenger might expect on a cruise ship. Good luck. I hope that you get to realize your dreams.

Hi, thank you for your informative response. I have actually thought of working in a cruise ship, but unfortunately, there aren't many opportunities for that here in my country. I am a nurse, and I actually considered being a cruise ship nurse. Sadly, I couldn't find any job openings for that and have stopped searching since then. Thus, I opted to fly instead :)

Becoming a flight stewardess was actually one of my dreams when I was still a young girl. Then as a teenager, I used to hear relatives and friends saying that I can be a flight stewardess for I have the height, the looks and the brains. Unfortunately, I never succeeded in all my attempts on learning how to swim and I don't have a 20/20 vision -- two qualifications I was then told required for an aspiring flight attendant to possess. So that's it - for me, the dream of traveling around the world for free was not realized.

Yes, indeed, it has great perks and benefits. By the way, are they really strict regarding the height? I have seen some petite flight attendants. Have you tried applying? Go chase your dream :)
