Washing - Do You Prefer To Have it Dry Outside or Inside?

Ok, here is my question... After you have washed your clothes... |Do you prefer to have it hanging on the washing line outside, to dry, or do you prefer to have it hanging indoors??? The reason I ask this, is because a have a few friends who hate the thought of having their washing on show to neighbours out in their garden, and hate the thought of spiders perhaps getting inside the clothes. Myself personally if the weather is fine, I will hang my clothes outside, on my rotary line, because they dry so much quicker, they get dried fresher out in the fresh air, and creases seem to come out better, reducing my piles of ironing lol. I really don't like having my washing hanging around the house, as it makes it look messy and untidy, and I don't like to use the tumble dryer too often. So how about you... which do you prefer?

Hi rosie! Agree with you! Hangings around the house tends to look messy. I prefer my washings to be dried outside. Thought ultraviolet rays from the sun kill lots of bacteria. But we are just lucky to have lots of sun here throughout the year. When it rains we just bring them in. I still prefer to have them dried outside.

I wish we had sunshine here throughout the year... I would love to be able to hang my stuff outside all year round, but we don't have that kind of weather, so I have to hang clothing in the house to dry, so I have airers in my room, and I just close the door, so I can't see them until I have to lol, because I hate the messy look.

It is better to dry the cloths outdoor than indoor. The people having no facility of drying the cloth out door of their houses can do indoor. But it is very tough for those people. In door is a place to keep it clean and attractive. Out door is place having fresh air and also sun light helps to dry the wet or washed cloths very well. So I prefer to dry them under the naked sky.

I agree, but I have a question...what other kind of sky is there? What do skies wear when I'm not keeping an eye on them!? This is news to me, & I'm very curious! I like hanging clothes outside to dry when it is a nice sunny day. I also grew up with a clothes line outside that my mom would use a lot in the spring and summer.

We tumble dry everything...I have 4 kids and do at least 2-3 loads of laundry a day, I'd be out hanging and taking down all day long.

How old is your oldest child? If he or she is a minimum of 8, & can stand on a stepladder, that child could help do it. Kids need chores to learn responsibility! I prefer to have it dry outside...but I don't like to put it in the balcony in full view of the neighbours. So, I put it out to dry in the terrace of the building I stay in. I'm lucky that no one else does it and also that I stay on the last but one floor...so it's not hard to get to the terrace.

I prefer to do it outside, I like how refresh they smell when they are but I also have those indoor racks which you can put them on. They come in useful when it's raining and you don't want to use the dryer, I perfer to avoid the dryer myself as most of my shirts aren't dryer friendly. Much more nicer in my opinion to do it outside. :)

I do of course wash all my clothes in a washing machine. I then will put some clothes such as under garments and my pajamas in the dryer to dry. Most of my clothes i will hang dry because i find it cheaper to hang them then to use the electricity to dry them all. Most of my work clothes and clothes i go out in on the weekends are always hung up to dry becasue i don't even want my shirts to shrink in the dryer. Now my jeans always get hung up to dry but then i will fluff them up in the dryer because i don't like them feeling like a rock when you put them on, so they get about 10 to 15 minutes in the dryer not long because the wrinkles and the roughness of them come out pretty quick anyways.

My family likes to hang our clothes outside to dry, but we do in our backyard where neighbors won't see our private pieces of clothing. I noticed that when we hang our clothes indoors usually when it's raining the clothes usually dry up with a certain smell..I don't know If other people experience the same thing. It's also more economical to dry it up outside than using an electric dryer.

Hi! Well, our house isn't the biggest so to hang the washing out to dry is an added bonus for me in the summer months. In fact, I am looking at a load of washing drying on the line as I type this. It's windy too so, hopefully the washing will be dry in no time. In my experience, it doesn't really decrease my ironing pile as my washing-machine drum isn't one of the bigger ones as they weren't on the market when my husband bought this particular model. Our machine is a washer/dryer but even when I need to use the dryer I will place most of the wet clothes on a "maiden" inside. They dry naturally in the warmer air because then we have the heating on. So, it's a combination of dryer and clothes maiden for us in the cooler months. Our neighbour on one side never seems to hang any washing out to dry and the one on the other side hangs her washing out like me...but, UNLIKE me she doesn't hang out any underwear. I can't see a problem with hanging out any underwear to dry. Some women seem to have a phobia about it which I cannot understand.

ROSIE: I think if neighbors are so bored or lonely they need laundry with underthings for a little excitement, then they're to be pitied. They seriously need to get a hobby & get out more! Haha! Before I came along my husband didn't hang out his Carlisle United football tops. I asked him "why" and he said that he was worried about people nicking them off the line. I told him to try to be a bit more trustworthy...and no-one is tall enough to peer into the yards down here anyway...and Carlisle United, you serious? Who would want to nick one of those tops? I always dry my bath towels in the dryer...I peg them out first...if the weather is good.. then for the last half an hour I will shove them into the machine to fluff them up, otherwise it's like drying yourself on cardboard! In the winter though it can take 2 hours to dry certain clothes in the dryer so it's important that the machine isn't overloaded. God, I sound like someone from Comet lol.

LOL - Your neighbours sound like mine... I have one who does not hang any out at all, and the other, she always has hers out, but she does not like to have er underwear on show... only her kids and husbands lol... she even said to me that she hates the thought of other neighbours looking at what she wears as underwear lol... I don't care either, if people are that desperate enough to check out my underwear, that is up to them, I just want it all out of the house when I can, and get it dried quicker. I use airers in the house if the weather is rubbish outside, especially in the winter, but I have a washer/dryer and sometimes I use it to dry the smaller items of clothing, since it does not always handle a bigger load for drying, some things still end up coming out damp.

according to me hanging the clothes in a fresh air is nice, because of hot air present outside the clothes will dry very quickly n will not give any odd air.If present in dryer, sometimes it will give odd smell, which will make uncomfortable for wearing.it needs to be washed again.its a big time waste along with human effort.Even we should not depend on technology for small things. So,i prefer drying in fresh air instead of dryer.

Of course outside.. So far there were no dirt or insects found in the clothes.. We don't really have a room inside the house for clothes to dry- and putting them outside would make it faster to dry. people don't really car whatever you hang outside your house..

We wash manually or by washing machines, spinning is done to remove water particles, but cloth is not really dry, still moist We put them on ropes on the roof, in sunshine, it removes smell. stains too. thanks for the discussion happy posting, cheers kalyani

I do use my tumble dryer too much but it saves me so much time! I usually hang certain items outside on coat hangers to drip dry; I find it saves me a lot of ironing! We no longer have a big clothes line since we renovated the house five years ago; my husband put a line under the porch but it doesn’t hold very large or a lot of items.

I also prefer to have the clothes hanging outside to dry. However, I also hate the idea of my clothes showing to everyone and the neighbors. I don't have to worry about that though because our compound is enclosed and we have a very big backyard where the clothesline is located so no one will see the clothes hanging.

I prefer to hang my clothes outside to dry. My mom always had us hang all of our laundry out and then when it dried we would bring it in and put it in the dryer for five minutes to fluff it so it wouldn't be scratchy and stiff. It saves a bundle on electricity and your clothes last longer because there isn't as much wear on them.

I don't have washing machine. I and my family always use our hand to wash our clothes. Then we have to dry it outside. We live in tropical climate so the sun shines all year round. In rainy season, we still have sunshine even though it just little than in summer. In rainy season, our clothes dry slower. If the rain fall continuously for few days, it take two or three days to dry our clothes. It make them smell not good. That's why we use perfume when ironing them.

I normally use our dyer and i just set it to delicate so that some of the clothes will not shrink or damage.
