I have heard that there are many rumors and myths regarding black cats. In India black cats are very unlucky and it is told that if a black cat passed a path then if a human walk along, the human will get the most unluck. Is there any myth/rumor about black cats in your area? If yes, then please share the rumor/myth with us.

yes, in India some stupid and superstitious people worry about black cat passing or crossing their way when they are walking. They believe that its very unlucky for them. But the truth is that's the way they think and whatever they think happens to them. in reality there is nothing in this world that we should believe as lucky and unlucky. It is the way you think at times. Whatever your mind thinks, it happens to you. It is basically, whatever you think, you attract in your life. So always think what you want and don't think what you don't want in life. Happy Mylotting.

Hey! Thanks for adding me to your friends list! Now about your discussion about black cats, it's a myth. It's been around for thousands of years. I think it started when witchcraft was happening but there's nothing wrong with a black cat. They're no different than any other cat other than the color of their fur. They don't have any powers or magical ways. They're just cats just like any other cat. My grandfather's favorite color cat was the black cat and he's had a few of them. I've had a few too and would again when given the chance but right now having 10 cats, I don't want any more but if one were to show up at my door, I'll take it in and care for it.

Many people in the U.S. consider black cats to bring bad luck. The belief is so wide spread that most animal shelters refused to let a black cat or kitten be adopted the week prior Halloween. Others consider black cats to be very lucky. I consider black cats to be as lucky or unlucky as a white cat or any other color cat. It's just a cat.

We have the black cat superstition in the US too. I love those cats though. If you break a mirror its seven? years bad luck. Its bad luck to open an umbrella inside the house. When Troll dolls were all the rage, rubbing their hair would supposedly bring good luck. I always felt sick when anyone brought those things around me so I think its more like bad luck. Its bad luck to kill grand daddy long legs. That's a kind of long leg spider btw if anyone didn't know.

This rumor is also well knows in my country. They say that if a black cat crosses your path then you should go 3 steps back and then continue walking or you will have a bad day. I once had a black cat cross my road and after a few minutes while I was thinking what could happen if the rumor is true and then I slipped and almost fall to the ground. At first I was little surprised but I didn't blame the cat. It's all in your head, if you think to much of it and really believe something is going to happen then something is really going to happen. Don't take myth's and rumors seriously because long ago people tried to come up with excuses when something went wrong.

That's just a rumor and nothing else. Just because they are black doesn't mean it has got to do something with their being unlucky and lucky. I have seen 100s of cats walking in my path, and nothing happened. There are things spread by women in the villages, towns; who always think bogus.

I guess in the United States, black cats are associated with witchcraft and evil and also perhaps hell. It's supposedly unlucky to own a black cat unless you are a witch or something. I think a black cat's blood is also said to be used to conduct black magic. For me, cats are cute and I don't think the color of a cat's fur determine whether they are evil or not.

it will depend on which country you are in.in Japan, crossing paths with a black cat is considered as good luck.I guess the "black cats cause bad luck" started during the Middle Ages, when a lot of people are accused of witchcraft.most people believed that a witch's pet is usually a black cat.

I have a black cat with white patches on his legs and stomach, and he's my favorite.he's big and a very "manly" cat.he looks out after our female cats and doesn't go around the neighborhood.he just lounges around the backyard.

Its a shame that black cats in general get a bad rap. I think they are cute creatures. However, aside from black cats being unlucky, if one crosses your path, it can bring bad luck. However, if a black cat crosses your path on Friday the 13th, it counts double. At least that's a myth I've heard.

In France a black cat is bringing misfortune. If you see a black cat crossing a road, you will be unlucky for the day. Another legend says that every black cat has a white hair, and this white hair is a lucky charm if you pull it out. I had a black cat during eight years and I never feel unlucky with him .

I think the one whos not lucky is the black cat himself... I am sure black cats have shorter live span due to their 'blend-in-the-dark' appearance at night and therefore most likely to get run over by vehicles

I know, I just tried to banish the rumour...I feel sorry for all those cats that were born black (whether or not you could see the white fur hidden somewhere)...its a bit racist, dont you think? =D to me all cats are lovely and adorable, even those without no fur...I'd love to try to stroke one =) Btw, my cat is white therefore she is prone to sunburn. I need to apply suncream to her nose and ears when the day is too hot/ sunny. If I had a black cat, it would make a perfect yin-yang pair =)
