Interesting match of World Cup for Spain

Many fans think it will be a easy match. However the process is a little difficult and interesting. Spain vs Paraguay was nice and controlled for most of the game, with Spain passing and Paraguay defending, and me expecting penalty kicks. But then it came to life between the 58th and 60th minutes, when both teams had a penalty saved by the opposition keeper, and everyone woke up. Then we see the elegant matador, Villa. That’s Villa’s fifth of the tournament, and enough to put Spain through to the find four of the World Cup for the first time since 1950, where their opponents will be Germany.

It definitely was an interesting match. I think Paraguay played very well. I thought they almost played on even keel, till Villa scored the important goal. There was this crazy three minutes when both teams gave away penalties and failed to convert. Then Villa scored another important goal which made it very difficult for Paraguay to come back. I am not sure of the goal that was disallowed for Paraguay!! Cheers! Ram

kevinll, Well, what can you expect from one of the most expensive soccer national team - Spain. This match reeks victory for Spain even before the kickoff as these young matadors were awaken by the Portuguese "bulls" in the quarters. Anyway, it is really all about Cesc Fábregas, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and David Villa after Fernando Torres was substituted which really had the world baffled why that late of the game for this substitution. A tactical switch that led to a lethal combination indeed - which brought about the demise of Paraguay. On the hindsight, I just hope that Fernando Torres will eventually find his footing and justify his coach's faith in him. It is a real delight to watch when he is on form and let's hope he will be able to turn it on in the semis against the formidable Germany. So, it is felicitaciones y mucha suerte España

Hi kevinll, It is a balance game or it is actually Paraguay to lose. Event though Spain has a large potion of ball control but they did it mostly on the middle of the field. Paraguay actually has more chances and even scored once (even though it is canceled because of outside - it is true an offside???). Spain come back strongly on the second half and do more attempt to break the tight defense of Paraguay. The referee also act differently in the penalty kicks. While Xabi Alonso first penalty kick was canceled because there is a few players inside the box just before he kick the ball, referee did nothing when the Paraguay take the penalty kick (there is a few Spain players marching forward before he kick the ball). The goal by Villa is very interesting one. But not on the controversy side. The ball hit the goal post three times before it is going in. First by Fabregas (if I am not mistaken) and when Villa hit the ball, it is hit the right post before it is bounce to the left post then go in. What I love about this game was each team try to win the match and not wait it to be decided by penalty kick.

Against the Germans promises to be a great match for Spain. I believe that the Germans has the edge after that drubbing off Argentina in their last game. However, even if Spain should not be denied of this chance.
