I like suspense movies, but scared to watch horror movies. I am not interested in many sci-fi or fantasy type, but prefer some realistic stories. I do enjoy Hitchcock type of suspense though except those scary ones like Psycho. Any recommendations?

Does it have to be a recent one? If not, there's one from the 1940's, The Spiral Staircase. It's similar to a Hitchcock film without being too scary. I'm like you. Like Hitchcock, don't care for anything too scary. I don't know if it's on DVD, but it comes on TCM sometimes. Another old movie I just saw that was pretty good and suspensful is called My Name is Julia Ross. Both of these are a little scary, but the kind of scariness you'd find in one of the earlier Hitchcock films. Nothing like Psycho.

Eep! Forgot one. Gaslight. I'd say that's the least scary out of the ones I named, but it's also very suspenseful and very good.

Have you seen Shutter Island yet? I really enjoyed it. It has a Hitchcock style to it. It is not really scary but there are a few disturbing scenes in it. Leonardo Dicaprio was awesome in my opinion. The movie stayed true to the book which was a good thing. It is a little slow-paced however.

If you like Hitchcock style movies and don't mind non current ones then you could check out A Perfect Murder, Body Heat, Internal Affairs, Consenting Adults and Body Double all of which share a bit of Hitchcock whilst working a similar concept to Billy Wilder's "Double Indemnity" which if you haven't seen is a classic film noir thriller from 1944. Moving away from being inspired by Hitchcock you could also check out The Game, Fracture, The Glass House, The Edge and also The Hunted.
