I'd let them. one it's just being nice but also it would give me time to get all my things up on the conveyor belt. That way I don't hold anyone up while I unload and then I can watch as they ring it up. The other person gets to go through and I have actually saved a bit of time. Works out well all the way around.

If there are one or two, as you said I would definitely allow them to complete their formalities. If there are plenty, I do not want to be a watchman at the store.

If I am in a rush, I probably wouldn't let them get ahead. I'd be worrying too much about how I had to get to wherever I had to in such a hurry. But if I wasn't in a hurry and there are just 2 people behind me with one or two items, I would let them go first.
