What are the best tourist spots and restaurants in Italy?

We're planning a trip to Rome for 9 days. We want to go in December, winter break....we have 4 kids. It's our first time but we want to make sure that eventhough it's going to be cold there in December that it's going to be worth it. What are the best places to go in Rome, Florence, and Venice? We'll more likely be staying in Rome though. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you!
