I Can't Wait To Get Away From Here..If Only For A Few Days

The neighbours have been driving me nuts all day with their "music." Because it's warmer the windows are open so any "music" can be heard by long-suffering people like myself. It's not really been bright enough to sit outside but what if it had been? My time catching the rays would've been ruined by ar8eholes like them who are so selfish, it's untrue. I f*cking hate the summer holidays and we're not even a full week into them. Roll on Saturday when I can get away to Edinburgh for a few hours, then on Sunday down to Mum's house, a big garden and - hopefully, not so noisy neighbours! What's your day been like? Oh, by the way I did shout over the wall "you play nothing but sh*te" when I was hanging my washing out. Didn't work though so I had to resort to playing music I like instead. Shouldn't have to do that though. The kids are a nightmare as well, so aggressive, bit like their parents I suppose. Grrr!

Hi Janey... I can really sympathise with what you have been putting up with. When we lived in the city, this would happen day and night and to say it was annoying is an understatement. We lived in a area where during the 1990s lots of houses were sold off to speculators who rented them to students and gradually it got noisier and noiser. We just had to move. Now it's great, living about 20 miles away in a small village and all you can hear is the sound of the birds and the occasional car go by on the road about a quarter of a mile away. I hope your situation improves soon. _Derek

Hiya Janey, Well you just enjoy it while you can see someone has heard your pleas and sent off those noisy lot somewhere else. May they take a few more days out too maybe on Holidays or is that asking too much? Enjoy it anyway Janey.

I know what you mean about "speculators." That has happened in Carlisle. There are lots of students here but, to be honest, they're ok. It's the locals we have problems with. I love the sound of your village. Does Chris Coleman live there? I'd be round his house lots and lots of times for stuff like sugar, tea, milk...not all at the same time, seperate visits! Haha! As for me, it's bliss here today...the neighbours have gone out. Hoorah!!

I heard the baby crying a while back (not that I'm against that, poor thing can't help it) so I guess a few of them are in the house..not all though otherwise it would be far noisier. It's bliss!

Hello Janey. Oh dear, it sounds like you're having a bad time of it aswell. Our area was ruined a while ago by the family from hell and they moved right next door to us. Their teenage son blasts his "music" out at full volume, it sounds like someone banging an empty oil drum with a sledgehammer! They argue late at night, slam doors, shout and swear and their dogs bark all the time. They've ruined a nice area for everyone but if anyone asks them to keep the noise down he just ignores them. If we hadn't bought this house and done so much to it we'd move but why should we move because of them? Their landlord should evict them. I hope you have a nice time in Edinburgh, it's one of my favourite places to visit except for when I climbed the Scott Monument and got vertigo lol :)

Well, the last time we went to Edinburgh we were terrified of getting lost (as you do) so didn't even walk all the way down Princes Street. Bit of a waste, really. So this time we're going on one of those Tour Buses so if we get lost it'll be the driver's fault lol.

Haha that's true. We got lost when we came out of the castle and I remember hubby cursing because we wandered into a street full of silversmiths and he couldn't get me away from there :)

I can imagine! Fortunately, they're not like that all the time but when they are annoying, they are REALLY annoying. I can't understand why some parents refuse to put their kids first. It's like they're still teenagers or something.

Hi Janey1966, It has been said that, good fences make good neighbors, but I guess you would have to beg the differ. Your neighbors seems to be getting on your last nerve. I can understand how you are looking forward to a mini vacation. How would asking them to low the volume work? Probably not too well, I could imagine their reaction with such a logical suggestion that could bring some peace and relief to you and probably a few more people in the neighborhood. It doesn't genre of music, whether it is jazz, rock, hip-hop, metal, if it is played too loud it is not enjoyable to any listener, not even the ones who's playing, I would think. Consideration for your neighbor, under any circumstance is a sure way to be called a good neighbor. I hope your get-away will bring you some serenity, even though it will be short lived. Getting away from your noisy neighbors and their loud music, will probably be a great treat. Better a little one than not one at all.

Well, I shall have Mum staying a couple of days before hubby takes us back to her house...and she takes no prisoners, believe me, when it comes to noise. She's only little but she can stick up for herself when required. Anyway, Edinburgh is looking more and more desirable by the minute!

When I left home to live on my own, I lived in an apartment and of course you could hear nearly everything that went on in other apartments. I had one stewardess living next door to me who would listen to the same song over and over all day long until she had to leave on a flight. I couldnt take it anymore and decided to give her a lesson in music. I played some classical music.....a military march to be more precise. I had to go out because I couldnt stand it. The big speakers were against the wall between our 2 apartments. I came back that evening and it was total silence. It was the last time I heard her play that darn song. I suppose it worked lol.

Absolutely brilliant, love it! I know what you mean about a song being played over and over again. They do that next door. I really am tempted to put a few CDs on all at once (I can play 5) then go out for a bit. I could be cruel and just have one song playing over and over again on repeat but I'm not sure if it stops after a while, so it would be better if I chose a few CDs on random. Call it a compilation of noise lol. I shall let you know if I have to resort to those tactics. I'm so glad your tactics worked!

I feel so bad for you. I too have neighbors who are just so fond of singing their hearts out and they're the type of people who should pick up the flute instead because that way they won't be able to sing. Does you area have like a homeowners' association that could do something about it?

Sort of...if it gets really bad I can involve the Council. I don't want to do that as a letter gets sent not saying the neighbours complaining but they wish to remain anonymous(!) - but they'd be able to guess and I'd receive a log sheet so I could write down the times of when the noise is happening. This all sounds a bit extreme but I reckon if I actually talk to them about it I may get somewhere..they did find our cat after all when she went missing, so we do have a bond..but a very small bond lol. It's quiet today, they must've gone out somewhere.

It certainly sounds like you are ready for a vacation. No chance of getting rid of them at all, I suppose. I would probably be playing music loudly myself in your shoes. I always want to think of a repellent for the little ones.

Haha!Their music doesn't normally bother me but today it was beyond a joke. We back onto an alleyway that is shared with another street and I know for a fact there's a guy who works nights in that block of houses. He can't be too happy right now. This family also have very loud friends coming round so they're all as bad as each other. I never hear anyone say..."best turn that music down a bit, don't want to disturb the neighbours!" Ever since I've moved to Carlisle there has been a problem with noise. In fact, hubby's parents had to move house a few years ago due to their noisy neighbours. I used to think people were snobs on the telly going house-hunting and saying that they didn't want to be "overlooked" by other properties. I'm beginning to think they have the right idea living in splendid isolation!

How horrible to hear someone else's music that you don't want to hear. I thankfully live in a very quiet neighborhood at this time. There was a time when I would go through what you are going through during the summer months. People are so inconsiderate of others and it's just not right. Do they really think the world wants to hear their garbage? I think its just people with not a bit of class or care for others.
