Is eating raw cookie dough really bad for you? I mean they put it in ice cream. My favourite flavour is chocolate chip cookie dough. I really like eating cookie dough, it tastes better than the cookies! I have heard of people who like to sit down with a tube of cookie dough and just eat it. Well I don't want to do all that, but I like to slice off some from the tube before I make the cookies and I will eat that (yummy!). I was always told it was bad for me because it has raw eggs in it. But again, they put it in ice cream right? Plus don't some of those exercise maniacs and body builders claim they eat raw eggs for the protein? So what do you think: eating cookie dough, bad or good?

As long as you can digest it and you don't have any issues in the stomach and you don't get constipated by it, then it should be okay. Otherwise, try to have the one with the quick digestive properties. Normally eating raw food is not considered appropriate, because of the cellulose tenderness, and the inability for the stomach to digest such food easily.

OooOOoh! Thank you for that scientific response! That explains things more. Yes I could understand if you eat too much that it may be hard to digest and cause you stomach problems. That would not be fun at all. So I suppose eating it in ice cream sometimes or even small amount occasionally should not really do any harm. Thank you for your response!

I am not sure if there is any foundation to it but I have heard you could get worms if you eat too much dough of any kind. I would think that since the icecream is kept cold it may not be as apt to hurt you or cause this as something at room temperature. I don't know, this is just what I have heard.

ahhh ok. But the thing that doesn't make sense is that this would mean there are parasites (worms) in the eggs. Which I have never heard of. The only other ingredients are flour, sugar, baking powder/soda, vanilla, oil, and any others you want to add in. Those are not exactly foods that would carry parasite eggs or spoil quickly. So unless I missed something then I am to assume that the parasites are in eggs? Because that will make me want to stop eating them altogether.

Why not? If this was a produced mix or even done at home it could have powdered eggs and any powder can have parasites in it.

I eat it once in a while and I have never gotten sick. I know I eat cookie dough whenever I am stressed out. Whenever I eat cookie dough ice cream I will always buy a package of raw cookie dough and add it to my ice cream. My sister ate a lot of raw cookie dough when she was pregnant with her triplets. I do not think it does any harm.

I can't say that this appeals at all, but then nor do cookies anyway. I'd echo the thoughts about eating raw food, but I cannot offer much in the way of advice.
