New English Primier League Squad Rules

The 2010-11 Premier League season will see top flight clubs forced to comply with rules over the size and make-up of their squads. I mentioned two important rules which is forced to implement after the poor and shocking performance of English Football Team in World Cup 2010. 1. Clubs must register up to 25 players including 8 "HOME GROWN" players. 2. Each team can keep unlimited number of U21 players. So, The Association wants to get few U21 players for the next world cup. And no elite team or highest budget team keep the players in non-playing conditions. The clubs now have to give the chance to others players also for the long coming football season. What do you think, my friends?

I think that it is a good idea but the home grown players do not have to be english. They have just got to be at the club for 3 years under the age of 21 wether they are foreign or English. I like the idea of limiting the number of players though as it will stop some of the money clubs buying loads of players and not playing them all.

All the clubs are playing for the money not for the developing or increasing the quality of the home grown players. So that the National Team will get so many players at the reserve bench at least. Most of the Premier league Clubs will be very unhappy for such types of rules because the squad is made by so many U21 players but they may not be home grown players.

England is trying to revamp it's national squad for the next World Cup after a dismal performance in South Africa. They now requires teams to utilize English players, or home grown players. The reason why EPL had been successful this past years was undoubtedly the presence of foreign superstars whom clubs were willing to pay. This past world cup, we have Fabregas and V. Persie playing against each other, but they were teammates professionally. And I know, EPL management would not like to see that, instead they want the England National team to be successful like the Premier League.

I think finally FA realizes that a successful EPL does not mean a successful England team. And some steps are required to address this situation. I think it is really good to register only 25 players which means clubs don't just go crazy in the transfer market. Similarly, by mandating at least 8 home grown players they are ensuring that they are clubs invest in the academies which is again a good long term plan. Cheers! Ram

This rule was mooted to ensure that young English players will not be deprive of first team football. While this is a good idea, I do not think it will solve the problem. The biggest problem facing the young english players is the asking fee. Whenever there is a promising english player appearing, the club will slapped a heavy transfer fee on him. An example would be James Milner. After the good season that he have had, Aston Villa is demanding 30millions pound for him. Likewise, how much did Darren Bent caused Tottenham? With that fee that they have slapped on them, clubs can find cheaper alternatives elsewhere. The club should not be blamed if they go for the cheaper ones. Unless those selling clubs and media come to term with it, no ruling is going to change the landscape of the EPL.
