I'll soon be a widow, not long to go!

July 31, 2010 8:28am CST
My husband has been ticking the days off the calendar for the last few weeks. Every day he says to me "that's one day less" and an excited smile appears on his face. Yes the time will soon come when I'll be a football widow again for about nine months. That's a saying we have here for women who's husbands are away at football matches and we hardly see them at weekends because if they're not at the match they're watching a match "down the pub" with their mates. I take an interest in it because it's his passion. What are you passionate about?

Oh my god! For a moment I thought, you are really going to be a widow (not football widow)and you have decided to share this news with all of us. The discussion header looks to serious, anyone can be fooled Most of the boys are passionate about a specific sport like football, cricket etc. In my country most men are passionate about cricket. Even though Hockey is our national game, we indians enjoy cricket a lot more and it is the favourite game of all. We love cricket, but it is not my passion. I have a very varying passion. It keeps changing and never remains for more than a year. Some of my recent passions have been, playing a online dance game (I was addicted to it, I used to play it day and night. Took a lot of efforts to leave it finally), earning money online (this is my current passion), downloading lots of movies, games, softwares and music. Basically all my passions are connected to my personal computer. So you can say Computer is my passion, I cannot live without it.

I am happy that you both share common likes and dislikes, you will enjoy all things better when done together whether it is downloading music or movies. Why you don't watch cricket? It's a great game and it is comparatively easy to understand as well I find soccer/football rules hard to understand and remember and that's the reason I don't watch. If somecan can sit and explain me the game rules properly, then I will enjoy football as well Cheers!

I could get hubby to explain everything to me and pass it on to you. I don't really understand the offside rule. I find cricket a bit too slow but he sits there engrossed so I suppose if I gave it a chance I might like it :)

Hello Pupud. I'm not about to be a real widow just yet lol, at least I hope I'm not. My hubby loves cricket too but he hasn't managed to convince me to watch it with him yet but I do watch football and I've been to games with him. I love to play games online. I download music too, I'm always on the look out for new music to download and hubby downloads films so we share that passion in a way :)

Not sports that's for sure. But I do love music, and if I could get away, I would go to see a concert. We did watch the Soccer games, but I was not interested. I did not mind the guys playing and how they could really kick the ball, but what I did not like is when the announcers seemed to favor one side over the other. And some of the referees were prejudiced for their own country. In other words, they penalized the other team, but not theirs. My husband and I have different tastes in things. He does not love classical, but loves western. He also loves John Wayne movies and I do too. But different types. I love the World War II movies and The Quiet Man, while he loves the old Westerns when John Wayne got his start.

I watched a lot of the World Cup - had to because my friend is Dutch and she loves the Dutch Team, and when Germany was playing, I said I hoped that the Germans do not win because if they do, and they go up against the Netherlands, then I will not hear the end of it. I never seen the Pianist, and most of the films I saw were the old ones. I did see one about the Dutch Resistance and how some were betrayed, and did not like it because , well you could not take even your teenager to see it. Some of the scenes wee too adult.

Hello Suspenseful. I know what you mean about the referees, they do tend to let the higher profile players get away with more. I didn't enjoy the world cup because England were so poor. My dad loves to watch the old Westerns, I've never really watched one but he loves them, I must watch one with him. I do enjoy a good film and war films can be really interesting. I watched The Pianist recently and it's one of the best films I've ever seen :)

I watched quite a lot of the World Cup too and I wanted the Netherlands to win after England were knocked out. Shame about those vuvuzela's though, I hope they don't catch on here! I'd definitely recommend watching The Pianist, there is only one really sickening scene in the film and the story is told brilliantly with excellent acting.

My daughters' boyfriend sounds like your husband. He is a passionate Indianapolis Colts fan and when football season rolls into town, he is always watching and talking football. I believe that it is nice that he is that passionate about something, but I do not think that I have been that passionate about much. I love my horses and I love my writing, but I do not think that I am that passionate about it. Find a friend and go shopping while your husband is MIA!

Hello Carolscash. Yes he's amd about football, he lives and breathes it. I don't mind it but I'm not obsessed like most men are about it. I've never been horse riding but I'd like to try it one day. As for the shopping yes I do occasionally have a girly shopping trip while he's at the match with his mates, it's only fair

Sorry, I typed "amd" when it should have been "mad"

I used to love skating when I was in my teens. I remember feeling really confident one day and shouting my friends to watch how fast I could go. Yes, I went down like a bag of cement and nearly broke my arm, I had to be carried off the rink by a supervisor I haven't been on an ice rink since

Helll Dawnald. I'm fairly passionate about sleep lately too, been worn out. Figure skating sounds interesting but I'm not sure if I could actually do it.

Wow, your husband must be a professional player. When I was a teenager I like badminton. Now, I don't do any sports. Sometimes I walk, but most of the time I sleep.

Yes, I would like a stroll in a nice neighborhood. Unfortunately, not many parks in Bali where we can walk leisurely. Most of the parks are crowded with people and walking sellers.

Hello Jennyze. I wish he was a professional footballer, I wouldn't have to work and we'd have a life of luxury He supports a team and travels a lot to watch them. I never played badminton, I tried tennis but I could never learn to serve so I gave that up. Walking is my favourite exercise, I love to take a nice long walk in the fresh air

I'm passionate about writing, blogging, and photography. At least, these are my latest 'passions'. I'm blessed to have a husband who encourages me in those areas. He bought me my own laptop and a good camera so I could pursue my passions anytime I want to. He also reads my blogs everyday and carefully edits them whenever he needs to. He gives me time to do it. Sometimes he drives me to places so I could take beautiful pictures. He respects these as my "green pastures" where I can be restored and find joy amid daily busyness at home and at work.

You are really lucky to have a supportive husband. Not many woman get such encouraging husbands, who will want their wives to do any extra curricular activities and make a earning out of it. Men always feel woman are born only for giving birth, raising up children, doing house chores and shopping, that's all. They feel a woman can't have any passion of their own. Sounds great to hear that men are changing their conventional way of thinking nowadays

Hello Ruthsm. You have some good interests. I've never done blogging, I'll have to give it a try but I love photography. I usually take my camera with me when I walk the dog because you never know what you might miss. It's good that your husband encourages you too :)

I know blogging is latest passion and which is common for many people. But I think blogging can only be done by people who can be quite descriptive about their topics. Someone who can make a good story out of every incident that happens in their lives. I am not so descriptive person and cannot give a detailed explaination of all the things around me thus I prefer making short posts about my online earning sites and that is all. I am not a regular blogger as well. I do it only when I get time or when my blog is having old information and needs to be changed urgently. Otherwise pepople visiting will understand that I am inactive and will not give them latest information. I would love to do blogging in my later life when I am more relaxed and have more time to analyze things around me Till then will enjoy reading and taking ideas from other's blogs.

My husband doesn't get into it that bad, but I totally understand. I know how serious people are with football. I don't think there is anything that I am passionate like that. I am glad you are not really becoming a widow like it sounded in your title.

Hello Thoroughrob. Thank you, I just thought the title would attract attention He lives for his football, I think he loves football more than he loves me I'm just glad he doesn't expect me to watch cricket with him, that would be a step too far.

You had me going for a few minutes, and I was very sad for you. I do not think I am really passionate about anything right now. I am more or less stressed. it will pass. I enjoy earning online, and I enjoy trying new and tasty food. No wonder I am growing to be almost as big as a house.

That's perfectly alright. You should always do things which give your soul the maximum satisfaction. In your case which is tasting new food items, not a bad passion at all In fact I am somewhat like you. I always try any new food item ordered by other friends in my group to just enjoy it, so that I make sure I have tasted every item available in that restaurant Lol

I love good food too and I love to try the local dishes when I'm abroad. Talking of food I'd better go and check the dinner before I get carried away on here and forget :)

Hi AutumnGold, it is great that you take an interest in something your husband is so passionate about and that way you can understand some of what he is talking about. My husband was a hunter and that was his big passion. I never got into the actual hunting but I did get involved by learning to cook various game and make some really delicious meals out of what he brought home. I also sew and I made him some warm hunting clothes for a fraction of the cost that he could have bought them at.

Hello Sid. Yes I usually sit and watch the games with him when he watches them at home. I really enjoy it and I even go with him to a game sometimes. It's great that you saved so much money by making those clothes, outdoor clothing costs a fortune

haha fair enough then. It is good that you don't mind and respect that he has a hobby because I can tell you truthfully, there are so many wives out there who try to put a stop to that. So you are a great person for letting him do that and good for him for letting you do the same. :-D $-MrDollars-$
