most people I know just drink meds even without asking any doctor. they drink these meds because they are not feeling well or they just saw it on tv. i can say if it is a simple cold or a low fever then me and my wife keep something in our medicine cabinet that was advised by the doctor to drink. we had that for years now. but in a fever that is not going down we dont take any meds that is not prescribed by the doctors. our liver get damaged when we drink the wrong meds. our liver is our body's engine, pantry, refinery, food processor, garbage disposal, and guardian angel. not just that some meds have bad effects on a certain persons body. a friend of mine drink something for cough but her heart starts to palpitate when she was under this medication. so she went to the doctor to get the best medicine fit for her need.

se7enthbird oh do be careful of cough medicine from over the counter as it has been known to cause heart attacks in some people .I think one should see ones doctor for flu and bad colds as a lot of over the counter things are not good for all people.

Hi, se7enthbird. I only take cough medicine that I buy from the store. I only take this when I am sick. I know that I just don't go around drinking any meds that I may get. If someone drinks their meds, then they may be posing a big risk to their body which can have a fatal adverse reaction that is negative on their body.

Sure i drink nonprescription medicines, i do that for common illness like cold ; flu; fever; cough or sore throat. It is just not possible for me to just take doctor prescribe med. all the time whenever i feel not well since it is an expensive visit here in U.S for one to go to clinic for prescription, a trip to clinic can cost you 40-50 bucks just for appointment with the doc. and a prescription cost extra. Unless you can afford to pay for all these brief and yet expensive visit, then one just have to learn how to drink nonprescription med. I am sure you already know about the cost of getting sick is extremely high over here.

so far, the unprescribed meds that i take is paracetamol for fever, claritin for allergies and mefenamic acid for muscle pain. Apart from that, i make sure that they are prescribed by doctors.
