The end of the world...are you a doomsday believer?

If so, of which theory? Do you believe in the religous armeggedon? The 2012 global catastrophy of the Mayan calander? Nostradamus' predictions? If not, why not? Do you not believe any of the theories or do you just plain not care? As for me...I couldn't tell you LOL. All I can say is i'm curious enough to be researching it all online when I get bored. If nothing else it makes for interesting reading. Both sides of each theory seem to have legitimate facts and scientific proof to back them up (except the religous view which is based on faith). I can't post links on here yet to share with you, but if your curious enough to look into it all you have to do is google 2012 or armeggedon also the website Nostradamus101.com has a lot of interesting reading

No, I'm most definitely not. As for the 2012 thing, regardless of what a lot of people seem to believe, the Mayan calendar does NOT end in 2012. It is merely the beginning of the 14th b'ak'tun, which is a period of around 394 years. It's sort of like our millenium. The world didn't end the last 12 times this happened, so I don't see why it would now.

My classmates all discuss this popular topic of 2012 doomsday. For me, I accept two sides of facts. Maybe 2012 is the doomsday and most of people in the world will disappear, but if it is the destiny, nothing we can do, but only accept it and enjoy the life in the leaving years. Of course, we shuold not be scarey. Lead a normal life. We also keep a good hope that the earth will be on in 2012 and we will die with normal way. So, don't think too much of this theory no matter it is true or not.

I completely agree. I've done the worrying thing and it's not helping.

Already thousands of people are killed by by weather conditions that most likely is caused by our pollutants. Then we get a snowstorm in winter and the critics laugh about it, thinking that one incident proves that it is false. And we continue driving SUVs and sending tons of pollutants into the air from our factories to keep our luxurious way of life going, no matter how many are killed each year because of it. It's not the coming of Jesus. Not the 2012 scam either (I hear real mayans are laughing at all of us - to them it's just another super millennium). And Nostradamus verses have different interpretations because they get so generic or cryptic, any little global disaster can be sledge hammered into it. No, it is happening right here and now, and absolutely nothing is being done to stop it.

Honestly..I don't know what to believe about the Mayan calander but I don't put a lot of stock in Nostradamus because his predictions have not always been right or he has been misunderstood. My uncle is a preacher and when I was a child I remember him quoting a bible verse to us children when we saw some people holding signs that the end was coming. We were scared when we seen them and he quoted "Jesus will come like a thief in the night" I asked what that meant and he said that it meant that no one would know he was coming. Even though it has been years since I have seen my family or talked to my uncle, I think that if someone was going to look to the bible to tell them when the end was coming that that quote made a lot of sense...Revelations is supposed to be what happens in the end but it doesn't really say when it happens either. It is an interesting subject for sure. As far as the facts..well..the oil spill makes me nervous and the weather changes are odd..the war is scary too. I don't know what will become of us but I know that change is unavoidable. I expect a huge change in the next few years but I don't expect an end.

Well for me Ive always been very interested in Mayan and armaggedom etc. Even when everyone thought the year 2000 was going to be the end of the world. But as far as 2012 I dont believe its the end of the world and I dont believe thats what the Mayan calendar meant, what i think is gonna happen is what has been happening now more often in the past couple of years, the world itself is not going to end but the way we know it will.

There have been end of the world theories for decades. Every few years, a new 'end of the world' theory pops up, and gets varying amounts of publicity. It didn't end in 2000, or 1996, or 1982, or ect ect ect. Each time, some one comes up with some clever reasons why it should end then, and it never does. I'd ignore it. The Bible says no one knows when the end of time will come, and that it will come like a thief in the night. Thieves never let you know when they are coming. So the bottom line is we don't know. That's it.

I am not an end of the world thinker. Seeing the end of the world is seeing despair. I am a believer in hope. I have to belive that our world can continue. The alternative is not a happy consideration.

I don't know if I believe any of the theories or not, but, like you, I have researched some of it, and I find it extremely interesting, even fascinating. No one knows what will happen. Will I survive if it comes to be? I hope not. I don't want to see what happens to our world.

I've responded to plenty of these similar - topic discussions. NASA scientists predict all the Arctic Ice would have disappeared by 2012. If the West Antarctic Ice Shelf melts, the sea levels will rise by about seventy meters. These are human - caused activities. Asphyxiation by massive quantities of methane gas bubbling up from the oceans & earth's surface will also take place then. We are moving towards both of those ends at an exponential rate. The UN & ICCP are also on board with this one. The cause is not carbon emissions, & the solution is very simple & not only very cheap, but saves a lot of money, etc, etc.

I believe so too that the day will come and the world would come to its end. It's up to us if we'll help our planet for it to live longer. But as what's happening to our planet today - wars, pollution, oil spills, etc - it's not that impossible that one day planet Earth will die. There are so many theories on how the world would end and I think either of that might come true. There's even a countdown on national geographic before 2012. http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/ends-of-the-earth

i personally believe in no such thing because its illogical to think that an empire that lived so long ago can predict doomsday but our advanced generation cant predict. and i have a question, since when have we been following the mayan calendar. this is like the rumors of the virus that that would have rendered all technology useless in the beginning of 21st century . the only way to back this up is to wait for the big day and if its true wat use will it make talking about it. LIVE YOUR LIFE!

No. But I still do not take away the possibility that I might be wrong. Anyway there's no use in worrying. Either it happens or not. Nothing you can do about it.

I'm not sure that I believe in an end of the world scenario but let's just say that I'm very curious! I did see that film '2012' and it certainly gets you thinking about the big what if questions! I know that there's mention that the famous Mayan calander comes to an end on the 21st December 2012 so people assume that because it's the end of the Mayan Calander then it must mean the end of the world also! I'm not really sure I buy that but then again you never know! I think that there has been so much talk about this particular date that everyone is curious now! When we eventually arrive at that date I'm sure our hearts will be beating with anxious anticipation to see if anything happens! It's so close to Christmas as well! Will be celebrating Christmas that year? I really hope so! I have a book on Nostradamus lying around somewhere and I know that a lot of his predictions have come true so we are wondering whether his 'end of the world' predictions will come true as well, logic says yes if his previous predictions have come true! I try not to think about this too much though! I guess I will wait to see if anything takes place on 21st December 2012! We would have had the London Olympics by then as well! Andrew

The world's gonna end someday, that's a fact. I'm not sure how and I have no idea when, but it's true. I only hope not to be here anymore, it would be painful and sad.
