I attended a funeral of an accident victim not wearing helmet, boy of 31 years.

My heart is heavy today. A boy of 31 years, born in front of me in the same quarters, played with my children, married now with two children, died in a bike accident leaving his parents, sisters, wife and children in a state of shock. Had he worn helmet, he would have survived as there was no other injury except head injury, doctors said brain injury with internal bleeding. Why cannot the youngsters wear helmet? Should they not think about their family members at least, if not about themselves?

Hi Bhuchi! My heart goes out for the family of the deceased and am very sorry to learn about this incident. Our safety is in our hands and so is our life, if we violate traffic rules, we may suffer irreparable damages, like this one.

They are a close knit and affectionate family dpk. His father says I never treated him as a son. He was my friend. If I was down in moods, he used to say come friend, we will go for a drive and was taking me for a round to some place to change my moods. His mother says, if I start out for any work, he was saying, I will go mum, you stay at home. Now who will say that? I could not control my tears when I saw his wife in a state of shock. She even forgot to cry. Her looks are very blank.

That careless thought of "Ah, that will never happen to me"... it costs a high price when it is proven to be wrong. Poor guy, one of my mother's friends had a big brother, when he got his driving lesson he was involved awhile after in a car accident, because he haven't wore a safety belt at the moment he hit the truck he flew away through the glass 30 meters, that caused him terrible brain injury and he is at the hospital now, dying slowly(he is in some sort of coma). How stupid can we people be, we are not gods, we are actually a very fragile being we should act with caution

I know it is just a terrible misfortune, to think that one moment of putting on a helmet on his head would have saved his life, would save his wife from a life as a widow, and his children from being orphans...

This is really a sad and shocking news one do not to hear. Basically i feel that after the mobile phones are easily available to anyone in the market, accident rates are becoming more and more as i saw several people, while driving their vehicles, keep talking in their mobile instead of stopping the vehicle in a corner till they finish their conversation over phone and second important factor is not wearing a helmet. Whether it is compulsory or not, atleast we should think of our valuable life and our kith and kin, one has to make it a habit of wearing a helmet while driving their two wheeler.

Very well said vathsala30. If every bike rider thinks this way, his kith and kin need not go into shock.

thats very sad.....i am sorry for that.....i know we the youngsters of india are irresponsible about driving safety.....i am also one of them.....i am 19 now but when i was 17 years old i also faced a bike accident.....i was having very high speed of 80 kmph....at 1 pm at midnight.....my bike was about to bang a car which on coming through wrong side....and i just avoided to bang the car and i was below the road.....my bike was slipped there and i got rolled beside the road .....it was very horrible and happened within seconds...i was having only some scratches on body and a little injury at my fore head .....i was lucky at that time....since then i dont drive fast because life doesn't gives you second chance.....

The words 'life does not give you second chance' are to be written every where to make people aware of the cruel situation. I am happy you realised the reality though in a bad way. This accident has also happened at 1.00 AM (middle of the night). The boy was coming from night shift. When he turned to a cross road, some other vehicle hit his vehicle in the sideways and he was flown up and fell down. There was no injury anywhere except in the brain.

yes totally agree with you..but the thing is one should wear helmet for his/her own safety not to avoid traffic police fine. original and branded stuff should be usedin place of duplicate ones

Is it because they are over-confident that nothing will happen to them or is it due to carelessness? Who will console the old parents who lost their only son and how to console the wife with only 5 years married life and two small children? The daughter, who is four years old, is asking why daddy is sleeping in the ice box. What to answer her.

I believe that in Australia everyone has to wear cycle helmets and I think that this is what should happen everywhere. I can remember back to when it wasn't compulsary for motor cyclists here not to have to wear helmets but now no one thinks anything about wearing them so if wearing a cycle helmt was compulsary people would soon get used to them and it would stop more tragedies like this one.

Very truly said Oldchem1. I cannot see the face of the widow. She is left with two very small children. They are just 5 years married. She is in a state of shock. Who can console her?
