The best things in life are free!

There are times that we base our happiness on material things. Things that we want to have and dreams that we want to achieve. Failures are considered downfalls. But then again, if we take a closer look at these failures we see wisdom. It humble us down and we learn to appreciate the people around us and the things that we have. We begin to understand that there are things which we cannot buy or have just that easily. We learn to be content, appreciative and be happy.

Yvonne falling in - The idea is to stay in the boat - guess she got that wrong
I totally agree with you We do not have much money and haven't beenable to afford to go on holiday this year - but we have been making our own fun and enjoying ourselves on our own doorstep. This weekend my older daughter and her family came to visit and she went on my son's kayak on the canal at the bottom of our garden - we had a lot of fun - especially when she fell in!! I practice Zen originally practiced by the Buddha. It is not just about sitting an meditating but a way of life where one remains through his/her discipline, focused on all things that happen. What Buddha said was that "desire was at the root of all suffering" and over the years, I have discovered this to be so true. If we focus on what we have now, not on what we are disappointed that we can't have, we become peaceful and calm, and therefore happy. We will never find happiness by looking for it, as by doing that we are acknowledging that we want happiness, meaning that we don't already have it. Are we really happy that we don't want anyting else in our life right now? A powerful question I think... Or maybe not for some... _Derek

Hi astreadido! You are so right! We sometimes tend to take things forgranted and not realized that there are certain things that money just can't buy and some of those things are our health, happiness, respect and love. At least that's how I feel! And then there is of course the beautiful things that surround us like the air we breathe, the sun and moon, flowers and trees, all of nature, animals and I'm sure I could go on, but I think you get my drift! Money is important, but it can't buy everything!

This is so true. Although money can give us happiness, there are so many things that we can be happy about without even spending a dime. Imagine seeing your baby make her first step, hearing the first word she utters, seeing her enter her classroom on her first day in school- those things are priceless. Love for instance is free. Imagine what love can do for all of us.

Yes, we learn to be content, appreciative and be happy. we also love to be happy, acclaim and loved. But in China, maybe free is not the most important. The sense of family is the first. For me, if I can help my parents to lead a happier life, then I will feel quite satisfied. If not, I will be guilty. That is nature to feedback our parents. Now, I became a mother of my 5 months baby. It is my duty to raise her up.However, she brings me big happiness.

The best things in life were free,it is true. Even rich people feels happy when receiving free or complimentary gifts. What more with poor ones. The simple happiness achieved for free by poor ones is one great wealth already, that no money or riches can buy. The air, light from the sun and moon, the fragrance from flowers, melody from birds singing those were happiness the nature has given us for free to be enjoyed for. Have a good day always

I agree. I've found more happiness in just an "I love you" from my kids than I ever have.Very very true- Happiness can't be bought-it comes from within.

Thats for sure. The best things in life are priceless like sanity that something you just cant live without. Alot of people do fall victim to the stereo type of what we should dress like and look like as long as God loves me thats all that matters bc come judgement day thats who i have to answer to

Okay nothing is free so that saying just is never right. It takes work and time and money to keep a family together, to take care of your kids, to stay with your boyfriend/husband, and in fact that's a lot harder, so you could actually say the best things in life cost the most!

Yes, I do agree. Some good things in life are free--family, close friends, sunrise, sunset, the company of your love ones--are all free. So it is best to look at these free stuff before looking for anything else that might disappoint us.

you are right,it is the life we want to live.but it is easier said than done. sometimes maybe we can lost our temper and cannot calm down,so it is hard to smile to all the things what happened to us.and i always tell myself:speak slowly ,but think quickly, keep slience and donot forget smile have a nice day

I totally agree! The true pleasures in life cannot be bought. Most times, though, we fall for the trap that commercialism lays for us. Materialism says we need bigger houses, flashy cars, more beautiful clothes, expensive food...but, do these things really make us happy?

Right. I heard that there was a wealthy man.For some reason he was put in prison and being kept for several months. When he got outside,he was very happy and he said,'Money is just like rubbish, free is the best thing!' I wanna graduate quickly,I want free!
