Amish in Illinois

United States

We are headed to Illinois in a few days for my hubby's grandma's 90th birthday. My children and I have never met her or any of the other family there and we are looking forward to it. While we are there we are hoping to visit the Amish Community in Arthur. Does anyone know anything about the Amish there or what we can expect to see? We have done a Google search but the Amish are very private people and there is not a lot of information to be found.

I have always wanted to visit an Amish Community as well. I unfortunately do not have any information on this particular community but would like to see as well if anyone else does! Also, you should post your experience there as well. I would like to know what you think of it!

I was in Pennsylvania several years ago close to the Amish community there but never got a chance to visit so I hope everything works out so I can visit while I'm in Illinois. I will definitely post when I get home! :)

I haven't gotten to visit any. I have driven by them in Indiana but everything was close :(

We have some Amish in Wisconsin. Some communities are open and friendly toward outsiders while others are closed and unfriendly toward strangers. I would check with the local people to find out if the Amish in the area are receptive to outsiders.

From the best I can tell there are Amish shops there that are open to the general public. I wouldn't exactly call it a tourist community. My hubby's aunt lives near there and shops from them on occasion.
