A friend once told me after listening to my tale of woes for the day that everything that happens has a reason and not to despair. I wonder. Do you think she is right and everyhing that happens has a reason or could it be that things that happen just happen.

As I get older and look back at my life I do see that everything happens for a reason....and sometimes I am very glad it did....even the worst case senario!

Hi Jillhill! You have a positive outlook of life and that is really nice. Changing the worst case scenario into a learning experience is difficult but positive. Gives one hope.

Well, it is important to understand what you mean by reason. If by reason you mean that everything has a cause of which the event in question is its effect, then i agree that all things have a cause. However, if by reason u mean a purpose, from a religious perspective, i would agree with you becos God as the creator and purposer has a purpose for everything that happens. On the other hand however, from a secular humanistic perspective, things happen because they happen. so that to say that all thing have a reason will lead people to try to discover the reason for events which if they do not find is more likely to lead them to despair.

Most of the time, I would have to agree with this. Of course, there is also another truth in the universe. Nothing is the same one hundred percent of the time. However, a lot of the time, most things are in fact done for a reason. Granted the reasons are not clear to us a lot of the time. It is confusing, as is many things in life these days. Still, I think about nine times out of ten, everything happens for a reason. Of course, if there is no obvious reason, then it is not something that is important. So I guess one could say that everything important happens for a reason. However, what is defined as important? There is really no cut and dry situation for everything in this world. Still many things do happen for a reason. That much is for certain.

Hello, Absolutely there is a reason foe everything. All problems occur for some reasons. Without a reason a problem never starts and ends.We have to understand the reason why the problem have been created. It always tough to find the reason sometimes.I believe that there is some reason for everything.

I think that when things happen there is always a reason. The Universe (or God) won't let something that shouldn't happen happens. If something bad comes, it is maybe because you have to learn something from the situation!
