http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100818/tuk-police-offer-20k-to-find-veteran-s-k-45dbed5.html Normally I ramble on but in this case I don't have to. Make up your own minds about how our society is disintegrating when reading the above article. It will make you weep. Personally, I think it's sad when the police feel it necessary to offer an award for information. If I had information I certainly wouldn't want to be paid for it..perhaps it's just me?

I seen this on the news. It made me sick to my stomach. I hope they catch this guy or better yet a bunch of local vigilantes catch him first! I agree if I had any info on such a crime, I definitely would not want any money in return. I think it would be reward enough knowing that the guy was caught. I guess it is one of those crimes that has really hit a nerve with people and the police are under pressure to get some results hence the reward.

I know exactly what you mean. Some crimes just seem to hit a nerve with people and some won't rest until justice is served one way or another

I tell you, if this had happened where I live whoever did it would be in custody now. That's one of the reasons I remain in Carlisle. An old lady got raped in Carlisle last year and it caused such a stir that it wasn't long before the perpetrator was caught..helped that it was shown on "Crimewatch" as well, but he would've got caught anyway, such was the feeling here.

Hi Janey... It is certainly disheartening news... If I could I would hunt the criminal myself and punish him... No need to let him go through the judicial processes, he doesn't deserve to be treated humanly. And we don't have cases and court proceedings for inhuman objects, do we?? I feel terribly sad for Geoff... May his soul rest in peace and his killer- may he find the worst of things happening in his life....

I am sure it would have shocked him, just as it did shock us.. Why someone will kill an old man- a war veteran too- so brutally???? Humanity is leading to an abyss. Wish we could save some of it... I feel extremely sorry for Geoff... It is good that your Grand dad isn't alive, it would have shocked him...

It is common here in the United States to offer rewards. That is what our society is basedon, money money money. Not too many things are done on moral grounds. If it is, it makes a story in the "odd" news section.

I only hope someone gets arrested for it. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

That is so sad and cruel. Why people would do such a thing is beyond me. Like they said in the story. He would have given them the money, there was no need to do that. It is just a cowardly act. I hope that they can catch this person and make them suffer big time!

Its certainly a sad case for a person that desperate to have robbed that old man for a measly sum. But regarding the reward, i guess sometimes the police have no choice, since the robbery happened in the home, and i highly doubt anyone would see the robbery took place.

Like his siblings have said..if this person (or persons) had asked him for the money he would've given it to them. Not that anyone should demand money with menaces anyway..so sad.

Yes, that's true. But i guess we can't really know what the robber is thinking when performing the act of crime, unless we become a robber ourselves. Some will probably become spooked, become nervous and can't think well, just bash, take and go... :)
