Christmas Is Just Round The Corner....What Are Your Plans?

Philippines

I know it seems like Christmas is so far away but however the days turn by so fast and before you know it Christmas is around the corner. What are you planning for Christmas? Have you started buying Christmas presents for your loved ones or will you wait the last minute? What are savvy Christmas tips you could give to save on Christmas present? I plan on storing presents for my family as early as now, because around December here in my country everything would go up and it will be more expensive than if I start buying bit by bit now and stocking them up.

Hi there I actually bought some presents at the weekend for Christmas, by Christmas I will have 10 grandchildren , I also have 5 children and four son in laws so I have lots to buy for so really do need to start early to spread the cost out! I actually have a small business helping Santa to write personalised letters to both children and adults alike. I started 8 years ago and I get SO many orders now, people have actually already started ordering them - they are scared that I will get overbooked and that they will miss out! It makes Christmas seem even nearer for me!!

OldChem, How much does santa pay? I am kidding! I remember when I was younger my grandmother was able to get us all lots of gifts, and would give the grandchildren money for how old they are. Now she's not able to do that, but who is anymore? GardenGerty, It sounds to me maybe an affiliate program for some of the legit santa letter programs, either that or maybe a local post office or newspaper? Heck you could probably ask neighbors if they'd like a personalized letter written from santa to their kids...

Hi candyfairy21! I am already making a list of what gifts to buy for my family and friends and of course my own wish list! :-) On top of my wish list is a new point and shoot camera and I saw one that already took my heart: a new Panasonic Lumix F2. :-) Looking forward for Christmas! :-)

I have bought a few things. I may be traveling at that time. I really hope to have some things ready by Thanksgiving as I see family members then and can give the gifts without mailing them.

It definitely pays to save on postage, though with the flat rate boxes maybe this year will be a bit different for those sending presents afar.

Hey I have a question for both of you guys I have a relative in the U.S and I wanted to give her an e-book reader device do you know where I can buy a chealper one? Target has none I checked and Amazon has their own version the Amazon Kindle but it is quite pricey at $159...any suggestion where I can buy?

I saw this on the news and a lot of people are doing this. I wish I had your initiative though. Unfortunately, I like the rush a lot more than what it accomplishes. I wouldn't know what I'd do at Christmas season without the panic lol. Plus, I think the price cuts on Christmas are more insane than now, no? Or is it pretty much the same already? If it is I might give it a try... :) Nice topic! Good that you brought it up! ++!

glad you like this conversation. Well as per experience prices go way up during Christmas. So for me I'd stock the presents as early as now so during the holidays I can afford to buy the ever increasing cost of basic commodities most especially the food. We are a very big family including the extended families of cousins, aunts and uncles, so we would need to prepare a big Christmas dinner. Whatever money I'd have near Christmas will be enough to buy for food. Christmas dinner is usually held in our house.

I see. I guess since I don't host the dinners (at least not yet) I didn't count them in with the Christmas rush. Hectic would probably be an understatement for a big family at Christmas if you have to pack all the duties into a month. I'm glad you've found a way to spread the weight out. It's certainly a smart way of doing it. I guess I'll have to give it a try, especially if there are good sales and more especially if they are on the internet and not too heavy on the shipping charges.

thanks meowcow foe your kind words. Yes I have found a way of looking at the internet as my ally now that it would be near Christmas and prices are about to go up. There are some great stuff at ebay and other sites as well that are not kinda pricey. What I do is see if there are other stuffs in the seller's store and then buy them if I am interested and then ask the seller to combine shipping. IF it's clothes you can combine 5 clothes in 1 shipping and that's a great bargain.

I'm planning to buy presents as early as now. I'm also more excited to celebrate Christmas this year since I now have two kids- first one will be one year and three months this December and the youngest will be 4 months. It's different when there are kids to celebrate Christmas with. It's been three years now that I have not celebrated Christmas at home. I'm working in a Customer Service Department and we don't have holiday off. However, for this year I'm going to have a Vacation Leave so I can celebrate Christmas and New Year with hubby and kids. My Mom will also be here with us this Christmas. My Christmas this year will be a very happy one. :)

You're right. The best Christmases is usually during childhood days. That's why I'm going to make this Christmas a very special one for my kids. I also hope you have a good Christmas. Have a nice day always!

Oh Wow I hope you have a great one this year and yes make it extra special for the kids to enjoy. My best memory of Christmas was during childhood so I advice parents to give them good Christmases during these years after all they have plenty of time being adults but not plenty of time to be children.

This Christmas we may be going off for the holidays and if so we will only be buying for ourselves, and for his parents and grandparents most likely. We plan to go out this year but am not sure if we will be able to because of the scheduling of his mom and of my husband. I have the list here in front of me of what my husband wants for Christmas, and I already know what I am going to get him, it's just a matter of waiting to purchase it. We've already got a plan for when we are going to start shopping.

Well then that is great news you may be travelling. I'd love doing that but my folks just live around the block and so are my other close kins lol. I plan on going on travel all by myself though but that would be before Christmas. Hehehe you got your hubby's wish list eh? lol Me it's a lucky guess lol well that's the fun in receiving presents is when they get what they least expect or never expected but turned out good. I like surprises like that lol but it's been 5 christmases already and I have always been Santa to my family never got any in return not even on my birthday. Not that I feel bad but sometimes I'd like to be surprised too.

This year I want to be more prepared. I do not want to buy alot of gifts but I do want a small and thoughtful gift for the people closest to me. This is also my youngest son's first Christmas. He will be 1 on 9/17! I want to start a tradition with him. We have discussed several things that we can make a tradition (buy a new Christmas ornament specifically for him every year) and a few other things. I want him to realize that Christmas is not about gifts but about Love and Sharing and of course Christ. My older kids I will probably get them gift cards or money as well as one gift. They are so picky and hard to buy for these days! LOL! Now I am thinking about bringing the Christmas decorations down! Thanks candyfairy21!! LOL!

Your Welcome Shelly! One thing I know about Christmas as a Child were not the presents on the tree but I love the fact that we are all together on that day and we are all in a merry mood. We exchanged funny stories and play silly games that makes us all laugh... however as the years went by when I was growing up and life had been hectic esp. financially and some kins moved away and some passed away it has been so different more lonely. However I made a resolution since last year to bring back the Christmas cheer in my family. So I have been playing Santa to add fun and I buy all the food in the dinner table although not getting any for myself...but not regretting it.I enjoyed looking at their faces as they open their gifts and as everyone joins in the fun.

Hi, In another 4 months time..Christmas is coming and I still have no plan at the moment. In our family tradition, we don't have tradition to buy gifts for exchange and we don't celebrate Christmas,so nothing special for us. Since it is a public holiday, then we will only stay at home to rest or plan for short holiday trip. Normally, I will be back to my hometown in December...for almost a month, but this year, I will not going back to my hometown.

Why not create a new tradition in your family that you can all enjoy during this festive holidays? There are so many things to do and not much time to do it like bond with family and friends....

I've been thinking of X'mas the whole year now. We live in a big city and rarely see each other, and I haven't seen my aunts and her family for years. So, I thought I'd save some money this year, to make a big christmas celebration and invite everybody, aunts and families, nephews and nieces and their husbands and children. I think I have to do this, so our children can get to know each other. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, as long as there's enough food on the table and games for the children...and of course a family photo.

I just wish the family outing will be real this time. Our family planned an outing last christmas but we were not able to do it. Hope we can make it this time.. Hmmm.. another plan I had in mind is buy a new cellphone as a gift for myself. Isnt that great? We need to treat ourselves sometimes.. Happy mylotting!
• Philippines
25 Aug 10
As much as I like to give gifts I also know how to treat myself, Oh yes go ahead and gift yourself with a cellphone you like... I have always wanted to buy Sony Ericsson Satio but I'll admit it is very pricey at it's cost I can buy a laptop which I intend to do so as a Christmas present for myself. So postpone satio my my my ...hmmm cellphone is chipped off and sometimes I am ashamed to use it infront of my friends but lol it is still in good working condition so it will do for the mean time hehehe... I wish too that your family outing will push through... where you planning to go?

There's been a split in my family, so I'm not sure how Christmas will work out this year. My children aren't speaking to each other, so I don't know how this is gonna work. Besides that, times are really tough this year. I have 2 kids and 3 grandchildren, and I really don't know how I am gonna be able to get them much for Christmas. I'm saving all my on-line money for it, but that doesn't amount to much. Maybe I'll write to Santa and pray he can help me.

Oh Christmas is the best time to make them settle their differences don't ya think? Where's the Christmas spirit? Think you can help patch things up with 'em? As for gifts try ebay there are inexpensive things that are great. Or you can try browsing the net for inexpensive suggestions. I am doing it now too.

It's scary to think how fast Christmas will come up and sneak up! It seems far away, but it comes up and is usually about a week away before we know it. I tell myself now that I need to start a list. I told myself at the beginning of the year that when I bought birthday gifts throughout the year, I'd also buy that persona Christmas gift. That didn't quite happen. However, I tend to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. I shop a bit online and in stores, online is nice for the convenience factor, but shipping isn't the most appealing part. I need to start shopping when I see sales, Christmas will be interesting the year as my sister will be having her first child.

I'm not thinking ahead too much right now, but I had been thinking about what gifts to get everyone. I'm not really looking forward to Christmas this year. I love the season, and I love the meaning of Christmas, celebrating Jesus' birth. But in the respect where my family gets together, I am not looking forward to that. We've had some bad things happen this year, and getting everyone together for the holidays just drives that point home further.

I'll probably get a job by October, so I no longer worry about where to get money for Christmas. So now I'm thinking. I was thinking of getting something people I'll give gifts something they could personally use or something they could eat, probably assorted chocolates. Frugal living, so I have to think of something cheap but somehow does not look like cheap.lol. For my family(father's side), I still don't know, my mom is not talking to my grandmother so I still don't know if I'll get them something. (mother's side) They're too many, my mom will probably just give them money, I'll just buy some chocolates for the kids. For my parents, well, they'll be having their 25th anniversary, so I'll just get them a cake. I really don't know what to give them.

Christmas is going to be difficult this year because we just don't have a lot of money. I tried to put away money each month, but I've always ended up spending it. I am going to try to be very frugal this year. I'm already watching the sales and if anything good appears, I'm going to buy it as soon as possible. Hopefully, I will get some good things that people want without spending a ton. I have to talk with my children and tell them they'll be getting less this year. They are used to a pretty big Christmas, but they are very smart and they will understand. We need to focus more on the togetherness aspect of the holiday instead of the gifts.

Hiya candy, Will buy if I can money permitting. Last Year I was not able to buy anything I did not have any spare cash at all. I did however manage to put decent meals on the Table for all those Christmas Holiday Days. We have a long Christmas here lasts from 6th of December to 6th of January. It seems so long because there are loads of Holidays in there too. Although we donĀ“t start really celebrating until the 24th of December starting from that date right until the 6th of January the arrival of what they celebrate is "The Three Kings Day".

I understand it can be a little too tight on the budget these days. That is why I am trying to do some shopping bit by bit looking for inexpensive but great gifts. I also use ebay to find good deals. However if presents cannot be given because it really is very tight financially a decent christmas meal will do. Something we have to be thankful since in some parts of the world they have nothing for Christmas.

I have already bought a few Christmas presents. I order a lot of things from catalogs or over the internet. Once the snow starts, the mailman can't deliver packages to my door (my drive is 175 ft. and not always plowed) I try to get as much done as I can before the snow starts so I won't have to go out and shop!
