Would you rather enjoy now and save later or save now and enjoy later?

I always had a problem with saving or investing my money. Whenever I want something I always give in to the temptation and but that stuff. Although I don't waste my money on that particular stuff since I use it. I always think at the back of my mind that it would have been better if I saved it and opted for a cheaper solution. As of now I am confronted with this problem again. I am tempted to upgrade my camera and I have a few options. I could buy the latest model and deffer the payment, I could buy an older model which is cheaper by 20%, I could buy a refurbished body which is half the price of the older model or I could just save my money. I already have a camera as of now and all I want is to buy a higher model which has an image stabilization in it. The only problem is I think my current camera still functions and still gets the job done most of the time. So far I haven't given in to the temptation since I think I should save my money now and enjoy later in life rather than buy something I want now and have a hard time later. How about you, which would you prefer?

when i was still single i do what i want with my money. but when i lived in with my gf who is now my wife we started to save. save for what we think is more worth. now that we are married for almost 8 years so far so good. we bought things that are useful and now that our son is four we already saved a little amount for his education. do what you think is best while you are single for it is hard to think about yourself and what you want when you are married already.

I am one of those people that make do. I use something as long as possible or find something else around the house that can do the same job. I've had my digital camera for more than 10 years and yes, there have been advances and the cameras now are nice and thin but I won't get another until this one breaks. If I were you I would save my money and definitely not go into debt for a camera. The only thing you should resort to debt for is feeding your family, never for trivial things like clothing or cameras. I don't know how things are in your part of the world but here in the U.S. people are beginning to say we're in a depression. These things tend to spread so I hope you will save your money--I'm sure you'll be glad you did.

I am used to saving now and enjoying later--even when I was younger. There are a lot of things that you may enjoy without having to spend much. However, there are always exception to the rule. Ponder on these things: what do you really need at the moment(not what you want)? are you considering functionality over form (or other factors)or the other way around? would you be happy if you opt for the latter? would it benefit you more? lastly, consider how frequent you would be using that item?

Hi, For me, I prefer to save now and enjoy later. I am very concerned about money and No Money definitely won't be able to have a good life and sure will be in stress. Therefore, when we are young, work harder to earn more money, then only with lot of money, then we can enjoy at the later day. Don't anyhow spent our money. Do some investment and let 's it roll to earn more money. If I do have lot of money, then I will save some in the bank, do some investment in share or housing estate, give some to charities. Then once a year,go for short holiday trip with my family. That is the life I am aiming for.

What I do with my earnings is, I save some and I spend some also. In that way, I can enjoy the fruits of my labor. I would always think that If I saved all of my money and don't get to enjoy my life now, what's the use if I have plenty of money next time but I can't do the things I like later when I'm old? With your case, If I were you, I would wait till I've set aside the amount of money for the camera ( like allot some cash every month till you come up with the whole amount ), anyway your old one still works so even though you don't have the new one yet, you can still use the old one. Maybe after you've saved enough, a newer model would come out or there might be a promotion on exchanging old cameras to buy a new one ( I'm waiting for that kind of offer too. ;))

Well I'm done with the "Enjoy Now and Save Later" stage. Been there already, wasted my money to some unnecessary things. Didn't bother saving before, all I did was spent my money to buy things I wanted and went to different places. I even reached to a point wherein I barely have enough money to buy food for myself. Now, I'm in the "Save Now and Enjoy Later" stage. I've been saving lately so that later on in my life, I can enjoy with my future family(kids/husband). I'm happy though that I gave myself a chance before to be all out and enjoy.

I try to maintain a balance of sorts. For one, when I want to buy something with a good investment, I always try and save that money first…if its not an emergency, then I save a little every month and then when I have that money, I go and buy that item. On a smaller scale, sometime I give in to impulses and maybe buy a new dress or bag even if I don’t need it or maybe I order some good food which costs a tidy sum…then for the next few days I feel guilty and control myself.

That's a tough question. It would be nice to spend my money today since where still young and will surely enjoy the things we can do today, unlike when where older, we might not even be that healthy to do the things we want to do by then.

Good day to you Andyvil, With reference to your main topic, all I can say is you can do both - to save and to enjoy at the same time. You can do both as early as now without hampering and hindering the fun and enjoyment that you wish to do. Like you, there are times, I want to upgrade some of the things that I already have. Buying a new and much more high technology in terms of electronics and other things. And as I was saying, as for me, I can do both. Maybe you can also try this to save and able to buy. Everyday, I try to save at least an amount of penny in my savings wallet. Let say, a 5 pesos a day is not bad at all. And if you will compute or get its total for 30 days, you will end up in saving 150 pesos a month. At least you will have something better than nothing. Aside from that, it will be very easy to save in that way, since you will not be having a difficulty to extract the 5 pesos amount from the salary that you have earn for the month. In addition, 5 pesos is not too big, hence, you will not notice if that amount was taken out from the salary due to its small value. Although the amount of your everyday savings is as small as 5 pesos, you will not notice it, thus, it will slowly getting higher and becoming a 150 pesos in a span of one month. And if you will try to analyze and initially get right away the amount of 150 pesos out from your salary, for sure, you can never save it since the amount is somehow material and in high value. I hope the sharing that I have done could help you somehow. And not to mention, cameras are somehow a good choice of investment. As the accessories particularly the lens is appreciating its value. Aside from that, photography is somehow a good choice of hobby. You can somehow express your emotions thru the pictures that you are taking. Have a nice pro-shot.

I know from experience that it is always, always, ALWAYS better to save first, and spend then, than to do it the other way around. Not only is it cheaper, it will also make you enjoy the spending more, without feeling any guilt or worrying about the payments.

I save a lot of money. I enjoy saving because I like to invest. I am always motivated by the thought of if I save much I invest much. I read a lot of books in money management. I suggest you also read books on saving and financial literacy. Actually I shop only once or twice a year and I never buy shoes if my old one does not suffer from wear and tear.

I dont ALWAYS save now for later but i keep a part of my money for later and the other part is for now so i dont have to bother waiting for later but on the other hand being prepared is always a good thing.

I would rather do a bit of both. Save now and spend now. The economy the way it is, and all these whispers here on mylot I hear about social security benefits maybe going down the drain in years to come, it's a necessity to save as much as possible so retirement is still an option when my husband and I get to the age of retirement. We both really enjoy shopping though and so we can't just not shop but my husband can budget something fierce so we usually end up paying our bills and being able to shop at the same time, it's the savings part we need to work on, but especially me as I am out of a job and need to earn more online to help with the savings department. I would sell the camera you have now and buy the newer model If I were you.

Yes saving is hard.Personally i think we save to use it later only.So the question is whether we using it with benefits results or for wasting. I thing i learn from my parents is save money to grow money. If your got extra money your can keep in Fixed Deposite or buy government bonds that what i do here in my country. Government bonds give 5%-8% per annum .FD is fix currently is low actually.Sometime we share with trusted relatives to buy shoplots to rent to people. If buy car will depreciate, if we buy proprites the price slowly rise and with rental too. With the rental we can paid the bank loan slowly.after many years the property is yours!

I would rather save now and enjoy later. I'm not really a spendthrift. I only buy things I needed.

I would rather save now and enjoy later. Well, of course there are certain things that we cannot save. For necessary things such as food, we definitely need to spend money on it. We should decide what are our wants and what are our needs. Needs are things which we cannot do without, it is necessary for our survival. Other than that, all other things are wants. I try to limit myself to buying only 'need' things. Occassionally, I do splurge on 'wants' to make myself happy or just as a reward. For me, I feel happy when I see the number in my bank account rise and it is because of this happiness that motivates me to stop buying unnecessary items.
