Morning walk

on road - morning walkers on street

Friends I have left morning walk since January of this month, because of ‘diabetic neuropathy’, I get burning sensation on the soles and feel insecure, as if I will fall down. So I use a virtual walker at home, it shakes my legs, I am told, using this for 15 mins is equivalent of walking 10,000, but I don’t think it is. Walking is walking in open air, where we get fresh air. This morning I saw lot of person enjoying the walk on road, thinking of resuming my ‘Morning walk’ on the street from tomorrow holding a walking stick, only problem is, I will face questions like, ‘What happened Sir, you can’t walk independently?’ I will be disturbed, but I have to answer, they are friends, well wishers. Do you enjoy morning walk or use tread-mill, virtual walker? You go alone or your spouse with you? Professor

Really unfortunate to have diabetic neuropathy. The burning sensation can be agonizing but you seem to be getting along well. If you can bear the walk on tread-mill, you might as well try your regular walks which you love. Your physician can help in arresting progression of this condition and it would be better you continue your exercises especially of this helps in keeping your diabetes under control as this indirectly controls the progress of your neuropathy. Happy walking!

hello Prof, Walking is a good exercise indeed. I always had my long walks every morning when i go to my training school. I used to walked that 15 minutes walk from the last train station rather than taking another ride. It really helps me a lot to gain more energy every morning and helps me to reduce weight also. I can say that, walking with walking stick is not that bad my dear bhai Happy weekend

Hi Professor, it's nice for those who couldn't have their normal outdoor walk to have the shakes on their legs to promote the blood circulation using the virtual walker at home. I couldn't have my regular morning walk as well during rainy day so I have rope skipping in front of the tv. I watch my favorite program and doing the physical exercise at the same time It would be really dull if just doing the same skipping. I prefer to have my outdoor brisk walk of course. The air outside is cooler and fresher. I could enjoy watching the plants, flowers, kids as well as whatever that happens to appear within my visual field. It's more fun to walk at the nearby neighbor in the morning. 40 minutes of brisk walk on the road would pass extremely faster than the indoor skipping and full of joy as well Happy posting

my husband's didi having constipation problem. She does more walking at the moment. Doctor told her besides taking the required amount of water, more fruits and vegetables she need more physical activities like mopping, walking to help to smoothen the bowel movement. She tended to sit in front of the tv most of the time earlier. You are very much welcome dear. Thanks for the BR awarded Have a nice day

absolutely, professor... walk in the park is a lot better than walk around the house... the smell of tress and grass is like opium that does magic to neuropathy... complemented with a good massage, walks are a miracle therapy... it also reduces the blood sugar of a diabetic and helps in making the heart stronger... if you're near my place, let's do the work together...

Hi Prof! I onlly walk outside during Winter time. The heat during summertime in this country is unbearable so I stay indoors. You posted before that you were having some elactromagnetic treatments? Did it help?

As I developed severe knee pain and feet pain, due to diabetice, I stopped going for walks. But I miss it a lot. Morning hours' usual scenes like milk man, paper man, school going children, their auto etc. I cannot enjoy now.

Yes, morning walks is one of the best exercise our body needs dad, try to do it again even at a start you can do for just a short distance, then as you do it constantly you can increase the distance soon...Don't give importance to the comment of some people what is important is about your health..

Professor2010, Honestly, this is my first time hearing about this virtual walker and being open about it I suppose it will serve its purpose for people who are unable to accommodate the actual physical effort to take a walk. At the same time, I believe it would be nice for people who are bed bound due to certain medical reasons or recovering from surgery. However, I just believe that one should never be too dependent on them and find opportunities to get out to the great natural outdoors for a stroll to smell the flowers or the sea breeze. I can understand the physical limitations but I am sure that once there's a recovery, we should always get back up on our feet and take that good walk. As I am physically fit and traveling a lot, I am just in between of jogging outdoors and the treadmill.

dear professor, morning walk is one luxury i would say, not just exercise - that is for me, i mean. i will explain later. it is good for diabetics i am told. but since you haven't been doing it regularly of course you will feel like you are new to that thing. you should do it gradually professor. and if possible with the aid of someone who likes to work also during mornings. if you feel better, a walking cane would help i guess. i said luxury because for me, i am a late sleeper and i wake up just an hour before office time so i dont get to walk like that. but of course i love to do it. you know, am imagining, a walk on the park with someone you love... aint that sweet? have a nice day. ann

For me, I tend to do more of an evening walk than I do a morning walk. The reason that I choose to walk in the afternoon or evening is because of the fact that I am able to go child free at that hour. I have always preferred walking outside because I get to enjoy the fresh air as well. However, there are times that the weather doesn't cooperate with being able to walk outside and at those times I do choose to use a treadmill or jogging in place at my home.

Dear Professor, I think walking is the next best thing one can do and should practice for the betterment of his/her life,I don't know much about the tread-mil but one thing is sure that even on the tread-mil one have to walk by his/her feet only and then again this burning sensation will recure and therefore the TM is not an substitute to Walking. You are rightly said that the fresh air and the well-wisher cannot replace the phenomenon that you are used to,no matter how much or how impossible it may seem to be, you shouldn't abandon it, you yourself know the benefits of taking the morning Walking in the Lap of Mother Nature.

Hi Professor~ I think that you should walk proud and don't let anyone bother you when you have your "walking stick"! I had a very bad knee sprain and had to use a "cane" for many months and still do at times when my knee or ankle bother me. I have the same issue of people asking me stupid questions about why I am using the cane (walkining stick) and it really annoys me! What do they really think I am using it for? I want to smack a few of them with it!lol I walk because I have to if I need to get to the bank or the stores! Try to enjoy your walk anyway!

I despise using tread-mills. Yes, it saves the trip to the outdoors, but what's the point if you don't get any fresh air? I also tend to get dizzy or disoriented, obviously, whenever I get off after walking for more than two minutes. You can get more out of a fifteen minute walk outside than a half an hour walk on the tread-mill. You would also not have to worry about slipping or tripping on the tread-mill, and seriously injuring yourself.

I really enjoy walking. I love the fresh air and the scenes. Its also a very good form of exercise. I don't use treadmill. Its not really walking since I'm stationary. I usually walk at night after a day's work. I don't have time to do that in the morning since I will be late if I did.

Hi Professor, I once saw a comic strip on someone who is very rich. He would have people carry him around everyday so he does not need to use his legs to walk. Guess what happens? In the end, the law of evolution sets in and his arms and legs were reduced to stumps. That was just poking fun at people who are lazy. An early morning walk is always enjoyable because the air is fresh and the exercise will do us good. I guess if you resume your walk, soon your muscles would build up enough for you to walk without the aid. Take care!
