I posted how I felt "left" out a bit during the Bb Pilipinas pageant at A.C. ... when the answer was not fully understood by me. I wrote that it is a no-brainer then and it is gaining support kasi it doesn't limit the options of the contestants but simply adds to their capabilities to perform to their best! IMHO, Eric.

I think we don't need one but then there are times that the answer can't justify it in English especially if we need to answer it for a second then there is time limit.

Why not? It's a very good idea. Just because a candidate has an interpreter doesn't make her any less capable. It was already shown by a number of Miss Universe past winners, that using interpreters doesn't hinder them from winnning.

Ever since the Philippines has been participating in beauty contests, contestants had been answering the Q&A in english, even our very own Bb Pilipinas. Is there a need for an interpreter? certainly not. Having an interpreter is just like a few steps backward. The Philippines has been known as a place where even a taxi cab driver can speak conversational english. Besides, Venus' answer doesn't have anything to do with her english language skills. In fact, the lady speaks clearly and with proper intonation and diction. Others thought that she could have given a better answer but that's just it. It's the thought of her answer that others found wanting and it doesn't have anything to do with her capability to speak english well. In my opinion, Venus was just too tensed to think more clearly before she blurted out her answer if not for that she could have given an answer, ms universe style.

a very interesting and timely idea..but i think it would forfeit the idea of joining the competition that of to show the world that women are beautiful and intelligent. as English the universally accepted dialect it would show case the prowess and depth of the candidate being questioned..so i think rather than providing an interpreter i would be much better to dissolve them and obliging women to answer in english to be fair and truly to display its virtue of being able to adapt in a language not/may be new to them..

i agree to this. after all, we can choose the language that we are most fluent in. so you will have more time to think about your answer and you will have more words to explain. but its all up to the candidate!!!!

i think ms. venus raj doesn't need an interpreter anymore because she could already speak english fluently. Ms. Mexico on the other hand doesn't know how to speak english thus the need to have an intepreter. However, an interpreter may add other ideas, or may misterpret what the candidate has been said. And to Ms. Mexico, it may give her a hard time to communicate with the other people, and may need an interpreter whenever she go.

If that's the only way for them to be able to give a satisfying answer, then why not!

Yeah why not? After all English is our second language. If candidates from other countries are allowed to have interpreters so should we but it has been a practice and our beauty pageant contestants are expected to be fluent in the use of English language.

Its a good idea. If the other country have their interpreter , why not us? English is just our second language. Maybe its time for us to be proud of our own language. Use it in international competition like the Miss. U. We can express ourselves better than using English.
