Does the current state of the world make you think twice about children?

I have one daughter, and I love her with all my heart. I often talk to her about the way the world is, and why it is more important than ever that she makes the right decisions in life. Sometimes I think about having more, and wonder if it is a good idea with the way the world is going. Does anyone else think about this?

The world is incredibly overpopulated, and the wise thing to do would definitely be to put a limit on having children. Of course, this is already occurring naturally in developed countries, but those in developing countries will continue to have many children because it is both somewhat of a necessity for them and they don't have access to methods of birth control like we do. That being said, my fiance really wants to have a child, and I think I may as well, years down the road. But I may push for adoption because I think that is the right thing to do.

Adoption is a great idea. while I wouldn't want to bring another one into this world, I feel that loving one that is already here is a must. I was reading the other day about how in Ethiopia, it is against their moral standards to take birth control, and that aids is such an epidemic there, because they view it as a curse, and force any woman that has it to sleep with three clean men as a method of "cleansing" it's just terrible. I'm glad that I live in America. Because at least we don't have to deal with things like THAT!

Hi zionsphere. I have one daughter too. I know how you feel. Even I would like to have one more kid but what you say is true. The problems these kids will have to face and what they are going through now makes me think twice. I still have time, but my husband says one is more than enough. It is going to be tough raising her and teaching her -as you said- to make the right decisions in life. The maximum we can do is teach them what is right and wrong and be with them when they need us and as long as they need us.

Well, the current state of the world has certainly motivated me to talk to my daughter about the importance of her future often. I actually think I do this around once a week! She gets tired of it, but I see her making goals. and at age 12 that is good! Thanks for your response!

I don't know if I'll have the chance to since I'm still single, but yes, I do think twice about it because of our current state.
