What are you doing for the environment?

I am very passionate about "green" living. While I have my issues with the global warming/climate change dilemma, I still believe in conserving our resources and limiting the impact that man has on our earth. In my house we cloth diaper our daughter, eat all local and organic, grow some of our own food, only shop fair trade, reduce, reuse, recycle, and use eco friendly cleaners such as vinegar and soap nuts. What are you doing(or not doing) and why(or why not)? This is also the first post I've started, so HI! :)

Well, I also recycle, try to eat organic things, and I try to avoid waste, such as getting plastic bags from the supermarket each time, I use a bag made of cloth that I bring from home instead. And I also try to walk instead of taking the car and stuff. But I should do more, really. Everyone should!

That's awesome. :) Honestly, that is sooo much more than I see many people doing. I don't know why reusable bags haven't caught on more actually. My Whole Foods and Kroger both give discounts(3-4 cents) for using them.

First , Please allow me to salute my respect to you, treehugging. No matter how little we made contribution to our environmet protection, it's enough when you keep this thoughts in your heart. It's better if we can effect people around us by our actions. I will try my best to make water to it's ulimate use. Say no to this plastic bags or something else.

Thank you! And you are right, actions speak louder than words. Water is certainly the nucleus in each of our ecosystems. Blue Gold is a GREAT documentary on that subject. :)

A high five for you my friend ! I always, admire people who do have a passion in helping save the environment, we all need that. In one way or another, I also helped the environment by conserving water and electricity, recycling materials and make them useful. Last year, I also help organize young people in our community plant trees, it was such a wonderful experience and it feels great when you have done something for the world.

Wooo! :) Tree planting is fun, especially going back every now and then and seeing how big they've gotten.

You have done a good job by drawing attention to the present day concern about environment. It is true though very unfortunate that man has so far done nothing for the betterment of environment, rather he is the solely responsible for day by day worsening condition of it. No other creature on this world has done so harm to the environment that has been caused by man. But fortunately the whole mankind now understands that if environment is hampered, the whole human civilization will have to suffer and so there are efforts at all levels to improve its condition by all means. As for myself, I am attached with some 'green' societies which are trying to make people understand the consequences of hampering the environment. I am personally fond of planting trees. I never use plastic bags, I do not smoke, I do not use personal cars, rather I use the public transport system. I know all these steps are very negligible in comparison to the vast magnitude of the problem. But I am sure, if all of us come forward we can win the battle and the environment will be kept ideal for the living of all the creatures God has created.

That is fantastic that you are doing so much in your household for the environment! Last summer I participated in a CSA which is a cooperative of local farmers who sell whatever goods they have ready each week for a flat rate to those who sign up for the program. It was really great except that I am just one person and often I could not eat everything they put in the packages. However, all the food was good and I felt good about having such "pure" food and helping local farmers. What has been your experience with soap nuts so far? Do you like them? How long have you been using them for laundry? I just bought some and washed my first load with them. I am really skeptical though; the water didn't feel soapy at all (even though I know you are not supposed to really see any soap bubbles with it) and I am just not sure if it is as good as regular soap.

I will do what any rational person would. Like doctors, first do no harm to the environment. Then help in cleaning the environment which has been polluted by irresponsible people and governments. Thirdly plant trees. Then ensure biodiversity continues to exist.
