What is the longest that you've used the same computer?

Just a couple of days ago, the computer that I have had for eleven years just went kaput. There were many problems but it really just stopped working a lot of the time. Still eleven years, the only computer I have had so it was the longest by default. Still, what is the longest you've had your computer. I'm looking forward to reading your responses.

Yeah, eight years is pretty good. You should consider yourself fortunate that you got that long out of a computer. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Yeah those computers heating up a lot of the time could be the problem. Sometimes they give up a bit too much on certain models. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

"ctrlor", There is a quick and inexpensive fix for the heating problem. Just buy a small cheap personal fan, elevate your computer so the air flows through the bottom up and around the computer; PROBLEM SOLVED! Try it and I think your overheating problem will go away.

11 years? I'm on my third PC in 11 years. The first one had a 40 Gig HD with a Pentium processor and Windows 95. The present one has a 500 Gig HD, a quad core AMD processor and Windows 7. To say nothing of it being about 10 times faster than that first PC . are you saying that you never upgraded your hardware or software in all that time?

There were some upgrades, but in general it was the same model. It was good while it lastest, but it went out and it was a pain then. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Yeah, computers that last longer seem to be the exception rather than the world. We always hope we can get every moment out of it, but you just never know what is going to happen. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I had one for about five years but it was a used computer that was a couple years old at the time I bought it. Then I gave it to someone else so I don't know how long it ended up lasting. I did buy this desktop from Walmart that barely lasted the year that was junk. I was pretty mad at the time. Stuff is just to made to last anymore. The prices went down, but the quality for computers went down too. They don't make them to last anymore.

A lot of the time, if they're cheaper, they're most likely about ready to be pretty much osolete. I just had someone built me a new machine, instead of getting me a model from the store. Of course, you have to find someone who is competent. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Yep, You get what you pay for! Sometime that's not fair either. For example you pay big money for what you think is a high quality item and it turns out to be a piece of junk too.

Computers are a lot like cars in many ways. When you take the computer out of the shop, technology is always going to change and it will be obsolete rather quickly, just like the car will not be the top of the line after you roll it off of the lot. Still, four years, not too much out of date. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contribted to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I have been using my desktop computer at home for over seven years now. It is still working perfectly, except for those virus attack problems once in a while. I am very satisfied with it, and do not plan to buy a new one any time in the near future.

I would say probably 2-4 yrs. I don't know why but it seems whatever blows on it costs enough that one may as well get a new one. Plus hubby's work will finance one for you off of payroll deduction @ 0% interest! But we do recycle the old parts into the new computer for extra memory, fans ect.

I have had my current computer for a little over six years. It is an HP Pavillion zv6000. It still gives me fairly good service but it is slow compared to today's standards and it is lacking in capcity but it is still functional for my usage. I would really like to upgrade to a faster more up to date unit but alas money is the problem living on a fixed income in a foreign country so I make do with what I have. My part time work on this unit is video and photography and it does a better than adequate job. I took it into a computer store to explore the possibility of trading it in on a newer computer and the sales person literally laughed in my face so I guess I will keep it. The nerve of some people!

We had our computer for ages, probably about 10 years, although it's so slow... :)
