Do you think that only creative people are able to Think Out of the Box.

That is to say, they can come up with unconventional solutions to a problem. Those who are less creative often think in a "straight" line. I mean, I have noticed from past experiences. Creative people can make an event more fun or happening coz they Think Out of the Box. If there is no conventional solution to a problem, possibly the creative juices will ensure can be solved creatively by using another route. At the risk of having some apples thrown at me, do you agree with me?

I think being creative doesn't always a good thing. Being unconventional, thinking out of the box has two extreme sides. Either you are accepted by the society totally and rewarded or you are not accepted at all even if what you think is great. Perhaps there should be some conventional thinking in unconventional thinking too.

hi kayra, thanks for yur reply and I know what you are trying to say. Thanks Hatley for helping out and I like your very quick example of the old fashioned ink pen as an operating tool! That indeed is quick creative thinking too (both ways).

Creative people do think outside the box and I consider us to be risky people. Taking all into consideration yet upping a bit more to take chances on theories. Closed minded for instance just will never risk ever going a bit outside of rules per-say. Follow ruled paths and never taking a chance or considering theory.

Or even benefit from the risks either.

howdy hardworkinggurl, yup creative people need to take risks coz they can never be sure if the idea can take off at all or not. Certainly closed minded people will be more rigid and can perhaps not really appreciate creative people, haha.

Creative thinking means thinking in unconventional ways or out of the box.But i noticed a few friends would get into trouble due to their erroneous ways of the past. Then they would expect me to bail them out saying out of the box thinking is required.I think this is putting pressure on the other person.

Hi picjim, your friends certainly am giving you very unconventional answer but I think out of the box thinking may not be applicable to bailing out friends in times of trouble, haha. That is to say, an error judgement on their part is not equal to your thinking out of the box.

Creative people tend to think outside the box more than anybody because it's called for in their profession. To be creative you have to be think of the unusual or different.

hi juryse, to a certain extent you are right. The creative people tend to gravitate to jobs that allow them to exercise their creativity. Unfortunately the less creative people may also be in the same job and that is when the brilliantly creative people stand out! Somehow, the creativity part just comes naturally to these people whilst the less creative sometimes find great difficulty in coming up with a concept or solution.

By labelling people as less or not creative is putting them in a box with no opening. That seems to be final. But we can be creative in so many ways and in so many areas. Perhaps, our definition of creativity is quite limited and limited to those we are conscious of being creative. I believe all has the capacity to be creative. Like, a person may be doing something new for him/her but not new to us. But as far as that person is concerned, he is being creative. Don't you think so?

hi figurativeme, being less creative or more creative is relative and I suppose in a generic sense, when an event is conceptualised in a creative way, one appreciates the creativity of the artist's handiwork or programming. Definitely not intended to pinhole anyone as everyone can be creative in their own way but whether it is appreciated in a broader sense. I can imagine someone as being uniquely creatively when only his family appreciates it.

hi dccell, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I must say the creative people ofen think of stuff that we the less creative can not thought of or even implementable. Individually we may have our own sorta ''creative'' ways but certainly not in the way that is marked brilliant i guess. yup and happy mylotting too.

hi its been proven by mental fitness classes that non creative people can also be taught to think out of the box and we did exercises just to sharpen our out of the box creativity. like if you had a bunch of large coffee cans what could you make out of them, or if you had a package of safety pins of different sizes what else could you do with them besides the conventional fastening something. I ended up with a novel necklace made of different sizes of safety pins chained together and a few beads thrown in., we had so much fun in this class here but since it was funded by the garden grove school system and this past year they were cut back a few million so the first things to be dropped were the programs here at this retirement center.Like always elderly people do not count for much in the US by most people.

hi Hatley - perhaps some creativity can be taught and in that sense, this creativity will not be considered unique enough. Creativity which is appreciated is really unique. I remember the Cirque du Soleil show that came to Asia some 10 to 12 years back, it was very extraordinary and unique and the freshness in presentation was very different. Totally exquisite and enjoyable. Now the creativity concept has been followed and modelled after by many similar acts and in that sense, the creativity level has been raised but I will count the original Cirque du Soleil show as having the creativity in the first place.

Hi carpediem17, I think we all have a little creativity in us. Some of us are just more creative ideas than others, which makes them extraordinary. If there were no extraordinary people in this world, we would not have so many inventions that make our lives as comfortable as they are. I do think that creative people are able to think outside the box; they have to, it is their calling. Their minds go beyond "black and white." They see a rainbow of possibilities. They don't give up when their first try fails. They just persevere until they have found the solution to another one of life's mysteries.

Yes, I think it is true. Actually, all of us are creative in our own. All we have to do is know our craft and likes. Because, most of us we are just copying things to other people. sometimes we forget our own identity and sometimes we are frustrated because we are failed in doing things that we copied. so, know who you are, know your passion, Know your strength, weakness, likes and dislikes. then look for a person who has the same passion with you, then you can follow his/her footsteps.

Well you're right in some ways. It is never fun to be criticized when you have new ideas. But if you really believe in what you have, prove to them. One way is to make a sample of your idea, it will be easier to explain your concept through a prototype. If you can't be brave enough to take the criticisms, it is one way of learning too. Just consider each as a constructive one, it might help you to improve your work.
