Valuing this life or desiring another where do you stand?

There are some people who look forward to another life and another world seemingly more than they value this world, this life or the people in it... I wonder at this. If a person demonstrates disrespect of the Earth, the people here and the life they have here, and all living beings here, how are they worthy of another life elsewhere. Did God make junk here?I don't think so.All was lovingly made here. All was lovingly created here. What would happen if people fully lived here and fully loved here? What would happen if people saw the goodness of all that is here and added to it instead of attempting to throw it away or instead of attacking other creations of God thinking that that action is going to earn them a better place?

I have no understanding why anyone would want to throw away what they have here if they are unhappy they need to look for ways to change thier life and live it here. I See no way that they need another place to be worthy hey need to be worthy here first!

Hi whiteheron, I agree with you in that we must value this life. I think many people have gotten the wrong idea from religion, whether this was intentional or not. It seems that a lot of people look at life at a student looks at an exam with heaven being the reward. I believe that we came here with a purpose, that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. You are right in that we are meant to live this life fully, to see the good in all people and our connectedness with all life. It would be a wonderful world if we realized that there is good everywhere and in all things instead of looking for and finding fault. We are not going to find happiness by killing each other but rather by loving each other. You can be certain that many people will be very unhappy in a heaven where there is nothing to complain about and no one to find fault with. My hope is that someday we will all know the truth that makes us free. Blessings.

Hi Pose123, I like your words... "You can be certain that many people will be very unhappy in a heaven where there is nothing to complain about and no one to find fault with." I chuckled a bit... and then I wondered... Will they be complaining that their enemy, the one they hated and perhaps even killed, wound up in heaven too?

Thank you for talking about the need to value life, to see the good, and the connectedness...and the fact that we find happiness by loving each other. I wonder sometimes why "a lot of people look at life as a student looks at an exam with heaven being the reward"? It seems ingrained in a lot of theological thinking... I wonder why that is and how to change it... I remembered as I read that sufi mystic who ran with a torch in one hand and water in the other... and who said that she would light a fire in Paradise and bring water to hell so that people would learn to love God for God's sake alone rather than for the desire for rewards or the fear of punishments. I found that she was Rabi'a al-'Adawiyya, an 8th Century Islamic Saint from Iraq http://www.mythinglinks.org/NearEast~3monotheisms~Islam~Rabia.html I found this piece of writing about her to be interesting.

I guess this relates to constantly living in a dreamlike state and I'm definitely guilty of this. There are times when I just close my eyes and ponder! I think about how I would like to be living another kind of life in another kind of existence and I have to admit that it can be quite pleasurable at times! I guess not all of us are happy with our own lives and so we dream of experiencing another kind of life. I personally value this world and it's a real shame that it's slowly being destroyed by the human race! I like to play my part in terms of never using plastic bags and I do a lot of cycling as well! It's just a small part that I play but I'm sure that if everyone did the same then it would definitely make a significant difference. I'm going to remain positive and say that I believe that humanity will make a huge difference over the coming years as we become more educated in terms of looking after this beautiful planet! Andrew

The desire to imagine oneself in another world, another space, and another times seems to be one that most of us do at some time or another. It makes sense that if we are unhappy we would tend to do it more than at other times when we are happy. It is good that you are trying to take care of this planet as it is our home. The Irish say, "It's a dirty bird that won't keep its own nest clean." I hope that we all begin to move away from the dirty bird syndrom and start neatening our nest. :)

Value whatever you have now, especially your life. Many people seem to ignore this in the sense that, they eat unhealthy foods, they do things rashly, jaywalk and things like that. On seeing this, I wonder why they want to kill themselves like this. It's not like we will become humans in our next lives. We could become animals, or humans again, who are less fortunate ones. We should treat our lives with respect and should do good all the time. We should do the things that will make us feel good, this is what I call by valuing your life.

We need to value the life we have in front of us. It is the only we csn truly be happy. Wishing and desiring something more may not always bring to us what we think it will.

You are wise if you value what is before you now. And you are even wiser if you know that you may not always get what you wish for or desire. Thanks for posting.

...it's a good idea..if only everyone learn to understand each other and value the things around us, including people and the nature that God provided us, the world would be a better place to live..however, we know that is not the case, God provided us, other people are abusing the freedom that God gave us..destroys the things God created and destroy the nature and the mother earth...if we aim for changes, let us start it in ourselves, eventually, one thing will lead to another and hopefully we will achieve a better tomorrow for the earth and for the entire living things on it..

Starting within your own self to value and appreciate what God has given sounds like a good thing to do. Thanks for posting.

live and work for this world as if you would never die and live and get ready for the otherside as if you would die tomorrow.

I found it interesting that you would "live and work for this world as if you would never die... and get ready for the otherside as if you would." Wondering if by living and working for this world as if you will never die if you would be acting with less intensity and less fear than if you thought you would soon die? I have heard others sing about living like we are dying... as they believe that the thought that one might die at any moment made them live better here. These are songs on the net that I found with the title: Live like we are dying... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unzBo3m5N2I&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxDkWBvxHEI

There is too much pain in this world some are lucky but the majority is not living well and cannot see the beauty around them. If they were one of the lucky ones they would have seen the beauty around them they would have had a different perception. Perhaps it's all about perception but there are many things in this world that don't allow to see them in a different window.
