Guys rainy and cold season is fast coming, so cold and viruses too. I have colds and will soon be having cough because my throat is getting itchy. I'm taking medicine for a week now but to no avail with less-to-none-at-all effect to my colds. What medicine should I take to get rid of cold viruses? I am taking megadoses of Vitamin C but it doesn't help. What should I do?

The best way to get rid of cough and cold is to strengthen your body resistance to illness.. your immune system. Take fruits that are rich in Vitamin C. Drink plenty of water and have enough rest. If you can, relieve yourself of stress.

I would recommend drinking green tea (such as sencha). There have been studies done to show antiviral effects when green tea is consumed (unfortunately I can't post links to the studies yet, you will have to find search for them). You can add lemon juice to boost the health benefits as it aids absorption into the blood stream. You might also want to try Manuka honey with apple cider vinegar. When both are consumed together its health benefits are also increased. A nutrient-dense diet and plenty of rest is also key. It is known that 80% of your immune system lies in you gastrointestinal tract, so it is vital to keep it in working order. I would drink Yakult to ensure that there's plenty of microflora to keep pathogen levels in your gut to a safe minimum, eat plenty of fruit, vegetables, nuts, and other high fiber foods like whole grain oats. Avoid consuming milk (can block absorption of nutrients), simple carbohydrates such as refined sugars, keep fat and salt to a minimum. Make sure you have a sufficient exposure to sunlight in order to properly assimilate Vitamin D into your body through your skin - there have been studies done linking vitamin D levels and general health (how often you are to get sick, and risk of developing cancer in later life). Vitamin D is also vital to ensure that calcium is properly used in the body. Spend at least 10-15 minutes a day in the sun but preferably in the morning not if it is burning hot or you could get sun burn.

Wow, actually I eat a lot of carbs, fish, pork but less fruits. I would do what you suggest Imperar though it'll cost me more in my food budget. Sumbal, I'll check if my condition will get worst or better. I'll give you update on my next post.

Dear first of all just concern your physician and let yourself know that weather its a viral attack or fungal attack. If its a fungal attack than it is confirmed that you got allergy from something and take anti-allergy instead of supplements. But do take care if its not the allergy than don't take any anti allergy. Because it may make your disease more serious . Believe me i have experienced it.One way to recognize that weather you are suffering from viral or fungal disease is that if your condition will go worse day by day than this means that you are suffering from a fungal attack and if your condition first is bad and than move towards betterment than this means that you are suffering from viral attack and if this is a viral attack than avoid taking any medicine it will complete its seven days cycle and will leave you. if you'll take any medicine it will make your disease last long and will not leave you so it is better to avoid medicine in case of viral disease instead apply vicks, take green tea, do gargles and take steam as much as possible and avoid sitting in A.C or under fan

...continued... As for mineral supplements and multivitamins I personally think it is unnecessary if you maintain a healthy nutritious diet that meets all your physiological needs, as it provides a complex range of minerals and vitamins all interacting together in symbiosis when undergoing digestion process but with a pill it is all separated, specific, individualized. There are even studies to show that many (but not all) supplements people normally take are not that effective at all and in fact may be pose to be a health risk.

Hi, Do have a good rest and drink plenty of water. For cough, you can try this home remedy which works well for me. Double boiled orange with sugarcane sugar, boil it for 4 hours in medium heat.drink it while warm and do it for 3 days. Do visit a doctor if your sickness still show no recovery sign. Takecare.

Fresh Ginger Root! Rest, water and immune building foods. Medicine thrown at a cold is just to work on the symptoms and weakens your ability to fight this aliment and future aliments. What does your diet look like? Healthy really is all about food.

According to my doctor, cough medicines doesn't really get rid of cough but the phlegm. Once we take the cough med, the tendency is to cough more. It is the reaction of the medicine in our body getting rid of the phlegm. Colds do not have any medicines. Because it is a viral disease. According to her, drink plenty of fluids and rest. No prescribed medicine. Even the Vitamin C doesn't help, sometimes, it triggers more colds and coughs because to a certain chemicals in the body.

Yes, it's so health embarrassing when you are caught up with cough and colds Because of weather changes, anyone might get it anytime without our knowledge. Our best way to get rid out of these is to stay healthy: eating fruits and vegetables, sleep well, and exercise so that our body will not be infected easily. Take vitamins and minerals and other supplements in order to fight infections and diseases.

Take enough rest and sleep, drink water more than you think you need. Although there is no fast medication for that you can continue taking Vitamin C and drink fruit juices rich in C.

My favorite is hot water, a bit of honey and lemon, maybe some nutmeg, and a shot of whiskey. Doesn't cure it, but you feel better.

When it comes to colds and cough, I'm not used of taking a medicine unless it is already in its severe case. For me, upon feeling a sore throat, I gurgle with warm water with salt. Taking more water and hot soup to let me perspire. More water to balance the body temperature. If you have cough already, avoid taking citrus food for it will trigger the throat to be more itchy. If you feel that your condition get worst, we never sure if that is viral already. We still have to take self medication for there are doctors who knows proper actions to take. Better consult them. Thanks.

I always dose up on Vitamin C too. I think it's better at preventing colds than getting rid of them. Honey is supposedly good for coughs and sore throat, but I haven't tried it. I would just try to get a lot of rest and treat your symptoms as best as possible until the cold has run its course. The best luck with medication I've had for my colds is Dayquil and Nyquil.
