Can Apache web server compatible with windows?

I am planning on run an experiment as soon as I gather up enough money to buy a refurbish computer. I would use this computer specifically to be web server, and the cheapest way to install a server software will be Apache, an online open - source software for web server. I have other computers at home, and it is running a network. But I just want to add a server computer to experiment the in - home intranet with minimum requirements. All my computers are running under Windows 7, I just wonder if I install this Apache on my new computer, would it be compatible to Windows 7? Any advise, please!

Yes, it is.
There are some versions of it that are specifically designed for Windows, and those should work with Win7.
In my work, one of my teammates, that does web development, has Win7, and uses a version of apache that runs on it quite well. We there use the Xampp project, that includes an Apache web server, MySQL, Filezilla server and Mercury mail server, all in one.

Thanks! that is really helpful. When I check on the Apache website for free download, there wasn't much to say, except I might have to go to the People discussion forum to ask around those developers. It will be my first attempt to install a server myself. Hope this will work.

In the interest of cost saving, you could get away a little cheaper by using an older machine and installing Ubuntu Server Edition on it. Ubuntu Server Edition is totally free and and you could run it on a slightly older machine. It come with Apache as well as a few other perks... you may want to check it out.

once again, thanks for the advice, I will definitely check it out myself. Is there any e - book available for learning the usage of Apache online. I would like to check it out too.

I am not sure I totally understand your question.
Are you asking will you be able to view web pages or view a website from your windows 7 machines from the apache server?
If this is what your wishing to know I would think yes. Although, Apache is a Linux/Unix applicaiton, it will serve html pages readable by most if not all web browsers.
What operating system are you going to be installing the Apache server with?
