I was wondering who here has or is interested in a career in Journalism? What steps did you take to get to where you are, or what are your plans to get where you want to be?

I don't have a career in journalism, but I was seriously considering it after I graduated high school. I was winning a lot of journalism and writing contests that I wanted to pursue it. But being a realistic person, I also had the same questions as you when I had to decide what to take. I had a lot of discouragement from the people I talke to. They also said there is no money in journalism. Needless to say I took their advice and went for something else. Now, I just use my writing skills to complement my current career. Sorry if I have discouraged you. If you really want, I guess you could try. Times have changed anyway. Goodluck!

Oh, I'm not worried. I'm just interested in meeting others in the field. I recently graduated last year with an Honours English degree, and I'm studying for the GRE test so I can apply for my Masters in Arts Journalism. :)

Do you mean for a school newspaper? That's pretty cool. What are your favourite areas to cover?

I am not aiming for a career in journalism, but writing has all along been my mosy favorite hobby since my high school years, and is still is. I enjoy my hobby writing articles, short stories, reviews, commentaries, and so on , online and off-line. I do make some earnings, but nothing really substantial. It is just a side-income. Best wishes to you in a career in journalism !
