Is it necessary to do the dental sealant for your children?

Last Friday my son's school gave us a notice, it asks our child to go to the local dental hospital to have dental sealant treatment. It is up to you to do it or not. I have no idea about it at all. So today I search information about it and I am not sure whether I have to let my child to have this treatment. My husband's teeth are pretty good although in the past there was no such a treatment. I am afraid whether the dental sealant is good for my child's teeth. My child is 6 years old and he hasn't changed any of his baby teeth yet. Please give me your comments and thanks a lot!

I believe if its baby tooth it needs no sealant because there is not need to preserve it for life after all. It will soon get a replacement. However if that is permanent tooth and needs sealant then it should be done. So in the case of your child whose teeth are all but temporary I don't think there is a need for sealant at all. If it is aching then the dentist just have to clean and put toothache drops.

They offered this to my child in preschool when he was 4 I had them do it to him. Today he is 18 and he has perfect teeth he has never had a cavity and I have to say I am sure he has missed several days of brushing his teeth during his growing up period I had to remind him alot. They also did monthly floride treatments with all the children in the grade schools in my area.

My children both had it. It helped them not get cavities even if they were not careful about brushing their teeth. They were in good health and had no bad side effects from it at all. I think it is a good thing. They got it once a year.

hi youless yes its really a good thing. My son had that every year as a kid and he grew up and was in his forties before he ever had any dental problems at all. that came about because he was not brushing like he should have been. But a whole childhood and teenage time with out any dental problems at all.I think you will find it a good thing for your own child. He will be protected from cavities.
