What kind of food should I give to my children to take to school?

Hi everyone, I have two children (5 y.o. boy and 2 and 1/2 y.o. girl). They both go to school from 1 to 5:30pm. They have a snack time around 2:30 to 3pm. I think they are tired of the same thing I send for them to eat. Today they took fruit juice, carrot cake, crackers and an apple. Yestarday, bread with jelly, fruit juice, an orange, cheese and cereal. What do send to your kids to eat at school?

As Cher said, you seem to be doing ok. As long as its nutritious its fine. Juice can be varied, there are so many, and not the juice drinks, they are full of sugar. Muffins of all different types are also an option, there are a wide variety of fruits also and loads of different types of carckers and biscuits. Just vary them and yuou will be fine. Stay away from the processed meats as much as possible, go for baking and slicing at home to make sandwiches. Depending on the seasonings you use, they wont have a lot of preservatives and chemicals that the deli stuff has. You can also send meals in containers ( I mean home made things that you cook ). They can be kept in the fridge and warmed when its meal time. Some schools will do that, I dont know if yours is one of them. Eventually they will tell you wfhat they like or if it comes back in the lunch kit you will know not to send that item again!

Good idea, muffins. They are not popular here in Brazil where I live, but I can bake them at home. Do you have any recipe? Fruits I donĀ“t vary much, I just send the ones I am sure they like (banana, apple, watermelon, papaya, orange)The other ones I give at home to make sure they eat (grapes, avocado, pineapple, strawberries, mango, etc.).

Go to kraftfoods.com or kraftrecipes.com. you will find hundreds of recipes for kids meals and snacks. If you love to cook you will have a ball! They also have economical meals and will tell you the calorie content etc. Todays recipes have a mouth watering cheesecake that I'm not allowed to have and I'm sitting here drooling and just looking at it!

What a nice website! I love it! I really like cooking, but I hate cleaning up after.

When I started to school my mom gave me peanut butter and jam sandwiches. There was usually a cookie in my lunch pail too. I lived in the country and had to walk over a mile to school. In the winter when the snow was deep my Father came for me with a team of horses and a sleigh. If it was very cold he would throw a horse-blanket over me on the sleigh to keep me warm.

I gave my son P/B and J so often that he now hates peanut butter. He still eats the jelly (by the truck load) bfut forget the peanut butter. I learnt my lesson with him so my second son sttll loves P/B but he's not that fond of Jelly. I love both and will indulge every now and again. I'm trying to keep my weight down but just can't resist it sometimes.
