When (& WHY) Did MyLot Remove Our Older Posts From Our Profiles!?

Or is it just me? One other 'Lotter told me it had happened to her, as well. I realize I've sort of been out of pocket the last 2 months, but I did still check my email, & not a WORD from MyLot about it! I worked hard on those posts, dammit, & I often referred to them for saved research! It seems to me it's a very high-handed thing for them to do--especially without warning; I could have tried to copy them if I'd known they were going to do it! Now, 3 years of posts have been erased!!! And please don't tell me to "ask MyLot." My only hope of connecting with Alice is gone with the missing posts (I tried their useless "search engine up there. Zippo...). Besides, MyLot only ALLOWS one to ask about things in boxed-in categories, & this problem doesn't fit in any of they ones they offer. Not that I believe they'd answer anyway, as they're back to acting like a BOT again---pre-Alice, i.e. You may reply, but be aware that this post may be yanked because--catch 22!==MyLot's "guidelines" say I MUST talk to THEM about any problems I'm having. But they've chopped off any way to DO that!!! Mad? As a freaking wet hen! That must have happened in the last three months or so, because I have had discussions as old as four years come back up this summer. I have not tried to search for any old ones, though. I am only trying to get a few more posts in tonight before I go to bed. I am not sure my old posts would be of much interest to me, but I would have liked a choice.

Evidently. But I was never informed anything would someday just disappear from my profile as it has! I think the decent thing would have been to inform people they were going to "purge" if they need space. After all, having had access to all my posts back to day one--three years worth--I should think they'd realize we'd never expect to find them wiped out!! A simple warning about a month in advance would've been reasonable, but I'm so used to their high-handed ways now I ought to have known better than to expect such a courtesy! MyLot is NOT about "choice!" Unless one's referring to their choices! I haven't noticed, but I'm surprised it wasn't done long ago. It takes up a lot of space in the servers to keep all that old stuff on hand, especially stuff from people who are no longer active. In fact, it might be best that they dump the stuff from inactives that is two or more years old. But, I can understand why they would do a purge at some point. If it's across the board, no cherry picking, then it's probably a purge to reacquire server space.

I never thought you were saying that - just that if they did, that would be wrong. You're right, though. advance notice would have been nice to have.

I never assumed it was cherry-picking, just rude & high-handed. I wanted to keep most of those, as I use them as reference, among other things, such as personal exchanges of information that is now lost. Thanks soooo much, MYBOT! The least they could've done was issue a general heads-up to us, so we could prepare for the purge. Over 2000 posts--gone! Oh, the posts about which I'm writing have long since been paid for--AND the money spent! I'm not upset about money, but about having the sensation of having been robbed! It's rather like a personal journal that someone carelessly tossed out, never considering whether I might need it! It was 3 years worth of memories, & I was never told it would be thrown out! I trusted them! That's the last time I'll ever trust MyLot, again. This is also the start of not referring friends here, too. MyLot just played with my head one too many times! Well, you do have the option to delete old ones if you really want to. Me, I'm a pack rat. I never know when I might need one of them again, for various reasons! Maggiepie “This nation can never be conquered from without. If it is ever to fall it will be from within.” ~ Abraham Lincoln

I haven't noticed any of my discussions missing. However, I do remember a long time Wiccan member who looks like a black cat making the comment that myLot was deleting discussions & she wasn't happy about it either!!! I agree that if they planned on deleting any discussions, they should have notified us so we could save any we wanted to refer back to. What happened to GoAskAlice??? She should know the answer to this!!!!

Re ALICE, I know! She seems to have fallen off the map! There is a way to find her, but that info was lost when all my old posts were yanked!!! Grrr! I know the lady of whom you speak. I like her. I seem to recall her talking about this, too. I wonder if she ever got hers returned? I used to call MyLot "MyBot," until Alice showed up, did some first rate repairs on much of what MyLot was doing badly. She asked me to please not call it MyBot. I agreed, since it was so much better. But. If I don't get my posts back, the big "B" may just make a comeback! Shoot. They'll probably just yank this, too. I'm sure they won't like my topic (them), & I'll be told I broke some rule or other...but will they say which one? Hell no! 'Scuse me while I go break something--other than my computer!!! Oh my they did? I didn't notice though. My oldest post, I didn't even read it. I guess maybe they just want to clean up and have some space to store more discussions.

Perhaps, as mylot has continued to grow daily, space on the server has become an issue. I've seen nothing on this site regarding older discussions or how long mylot will keep them in the archives but it doesn't seem logical to expect them to keep every discussion over 216,000 members have started on their server indefinitely. It also doesn't seem logical to expect them to notify individual members when space is freed up as this is normally done on a mass scale based on date parameters. It might be a good idea for you...and others who need to refer to older discussions...to get into the habit of saving them on your individual pc's since you are now aware of this.

I think mylot never delete any older posts. Because I am a one year old member of this site. And I have already all discussions have which I started. But sometimes mylot deleted old posts when nobody can use it longer. I think sometime posts against mylot policy so mylot can delete these posts. But I have never faced this problem.

I've never seen it done before--& I've been here 3 years--so what on earth led them to just now wipe out my posts? They have definitely done so to me & at least one other person, & I have no way to contact them to ask them not to do so again without warning! You haven't faced it, most likely, because you haven't amassed so many posts. At the very least, they could include a note when one first signs up to the effect of, "By the way, after an arbitrary number of posts, or an arbitrary point in time as a member, your old posts will be stricken from your profile, so you MIGHT want to copy your posts you want to KEEP onto some other place." But then, that wouldn't be their style. Maggiepie "Uttering a word is like striking a note on the keyboard of the imagination." ~ Ludwig Wittgenstein, philosopher (1889-1951)
