A lot of people turn to comfort food or even junk food eating so as to relieve stress. Is there a certain food type that has a direct effect on relieving stress? And hope it could be something healthy, good for the body in the long run.

Sorry, but I beg to differ with your prescription for stress relief. Stress is basically a mental thing that causes biochemical changes, so trying to change the biochemistry through food, food supplements or medicines may make you feel good momentarily but will not relieve the basic cause of stress. Having a healthy and strong body definitely helps cope with stress, but you also need a healthy and strong mind. So better to aim for a holistic solution and not limit yourself to food only. Brainwave entrainment is a simple, quick and effective way to get rid of stress. All you have to do is listen to the entrainment audio and allow yourself to let go and relax. If you have never heard of brainwave entrainment technology, you may read here http://www.mind-awakening-techniques.com/brainwave-technology.php For making your mind strong, mindfulness based techniques are ideal. A lot of therapists use mindfulness based techniques to help patients cope with stress, depression, and other disorders. But there are ways you can learn on your own. Here is a good resource http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-learn-mindfulness-effectively Combining these two will give you a safe and simple way to relax and enjoy your life. I suggest you check these resources and decide what works best for you. With these wonderful tools you no longer have to waste your energy worrying about stress. Happy relaxing!

Wow, thank you for this information. It's very comprehensive. I think I agree that stress should be approached in a holistic level, you're right -- a state of mind should be healthy in order to fully relieve one of stress. I'll surely take a look at these sites you recommended. thank you very much.

There are many stress relieving foods like asparagus, tuna, blue berry, beef etc.... but they are not reachable to everyone at all the time, hence any green leaves of your choice is good to relieve the stress.

Chocolate helps me all the time. It's not good to eat too much though. Esspecially when people are stressed gaining weight is a lot easier. Popcorn is a great snack that isn't really healthy but it doesn't make you fat at least. Also bananas can improve your mood and are very healthy too. And oranges as well. Fruits can be great snacks.
