ugly people, why shouldn't they be on tv?

One thing I notice from watching BBC America, is that there isn't really as much of an emphasis on people who are good looking. Like, for example; Jeremy Clarkson of TopGear. He may be ugly but it really doesn't matter, the content of the show, mostly thanks to his personality has lead to the run-away success of the show with over a million viewers world-wide and about three separate spin-offs Topgear Russia, Australia, and possibly America. What stops this from happening? Where does the emphasis on beauty come from? Should we even change it?

It doesn't matter how they look, all that matters is what they have in the inside, a great personality.

I think there are some examples of people who do their show and their not particularly good looking on American television, like Jon Stewart comes to mind but, he's kind of no comment sort of looking. But is there anyone who's ugly on American tv, yet does a good show? I can't think of any :(

I think there should be real people on TV. TV makes people think people are flawless and think that's real and normal.
