This is actually my week long being member here in mylot. First I observed all of you are using screen name, mask name, secret name, avatar and whatever AKA. Is this a rule of mylot to hide on such screen name - for what reasons. You know for me it's better to show to our friends (if you considered friends in your list) our real person specially our picture. How you can say being sincere in your response, topic if you are not showing even part of yourself. What are the reasosn? Would you please share with me and us might me helpful..

Well if you go to their profile, you can at least see which country they came from, how old, and few more other information. I think it is everybody's right to put whatever they like to put on their profile picture. Using nickname is fine for me, and it's shouldn't be a problem to anyone. Because I never wanted to use my real name on Internet (that's one of my private information and don't want to share with internet community), I do put picture (if you want to see if I'm a real person, you can go to my profile and you should see pictures of me lol). As for profile picture, I love that bird with the sad-beak, and I love animals too. Oh, and of course mylot members are 100% real, more real than 100%. I'm real myself :D For a better tip, maybe take sometimes to go around mylot and read other people discussion then you will realise all the responses are not the same and they came from a different mind and thoughts. Hope this help :) Have a nice day

Cant tell you about all others mylot users, but i am real and still i prefer to use username in forums and only sometimes my real name which maybe would sound a little bit strange for people from different countries, cultures.

hello visavis! (sounds like AKA for me) well, anyways,as i have noticed since my five months of stay here, i have meet quite a few people who are real.i even can chat with them outside this site and able to call sometimes on their own phones or something. for me,it doesn't matter what names you prefer to use here.as long as you are a real person trying to communicate in real people around the globe. i do believe that it is our own freedom to use whatever usernames or avatars we use. sometimes we just need to keep some of ourselves private.especially some personal informations which can be harmful when spread through internet world. enjoy yourself in here! have fun!

Miss Annavi being private or having privacy is look like you put yourself inside the isolated place. My question is why you are joining mylot to share something to others but don't touch my privacy - am i right. I call it one sided friends - Mylot put on the web dashboard list of your freinds, you get my point. Miss Lynlypiochy - sorry but your ideas is so exaggerated, some cases might be but isolated cases. And it is happened only if you are agreed to meet or they call it I think "eye ball" - Am I right correct if I am wrong..

It may be a little exaggerated but it would be a good piece of advice to help someone become self and feel safer. It's not just the eye ball thing that is dangerous. There are some people who post their complete information online and they have been in bad situations. If you have a facebook account, you could see a lot of people putting in their complete addresses and even phone numbers on their pages. It may not be now, but it could be soon. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Very well said. Posting personal information has been proven to have caused harm to people. I have heard some news about people getting killed, robbed and harassed because of having too much information on their page online.

There's really no need for anyone to reveal their real names. This is for security purposes just like passwords. There's really no issue of insincerity just because people are using aliases. Furthermore, this is the internet, there are loads and different kinds of people who can connect to you and you need to guard identity. And if you want sincerity, truthfulness, and you want no secret, then meet people in person. There are no rules in the net that you have to be completely honest unless of course you're transacting money. It's funny how people could still think about topics like this one. This is the internet people. There's really no reason for you to reveal who you really are.

Exactly what I wanted to talk about in my response of this post but it came out differently :D you are right, I'm more bothered if "real people" out there are sincere to me and honest and don't have an intention to "kidnap" me or steal my money lol!

may i ask you if your mylot username is an AKA or a real name? if it is the former, then may i ask you why you prefer to make use of a screen name instead of your real name? mine is a combination of my nick and my real name although i prefer to hide behind the avatar pic which i have uploaded here in mylot but my blogspot posted at my profile page opens to all not only my identity but my world as well. there's actually nothing to hide except that the anonymity gives one the freedom to speak out his/her mind with no limit and with no hesitation. to know if one's response is sincere doesn't need a face to link to the writer. you can know the sincerity of a writer by the way he/she writes. a creative writer puts his/her soul and emotions into his/her writing. one can just feel the sincerity without having to see his/her face. facial expression can hide one's emotion but not when you're sharing your mind here in mylot.

Hi Visavis, I'm not talking about writers of books. I'm talking about writers here in myLot. A good writer knows if responses are sincere. Just have a feel of it especially when topics are about life and about asking for advices. You can really see the soul of a writer who shares his/her thoughts. If one has been writing or posting messages in different fora/forums, one can distinguish between sincere responses or not. Hi lynlypiochy, you're probably right but there are some opinions which are based on truth as well. I won't be replying to discussion of which I don't know much.

thanks to your views.. But your talking about a writer of a certain books or report something - but in my mylot I consider it social networking. Here you encountered sometime asking your opinion, advice and information. How you can know if they are telling the truth if you don't know atleast part of him.

In opinions, you do not need to know if it is the truth. It is an opinion.

i agree! not all people here used their real names... i think it's everyone's right to use whatever they want to use as their username here or whatever a.k.a. they want to use,as long as they are sincere and true to what they are sharing here.

If I include my surname a little long "evangelista" - so I used my favourite username and website name (VIS-A-VIS) which means "face to face", but in my other part the picture I'm using is REAL. thanks..

It's called privacy, and everyone's entitled to it. Just because we use screennames or don't put our pictures up doesn't mean that we're not real people. I don't want some idiot stalking me when they see who I am on here, it's easy for someone to recognize you from the picture here and track you down if they live where you live. It's common sense on the internet these days to play it safe since there are so many scammers out there who will steal whatever information about you that they can. I rarely reveal anything about myself to anyone online, I've learned my lesson the hard way about doing that, it's not worth it anymore. So if anyone wants to know anything about me, they can ask me, but I can choose not to answer them in that regard.

Thanks to your response.. One thing left in my conscience.. If you consider mylot is a place where you can "have, make, meet, conversation" FRIENDS I think privacy is not necessary, because mylot is public domain, social networking, once you enter expect something... Am i right?
21 Oct 10
Online people tend to have usernames, it's something that people find fun and interesting. I wouldn't single mylot out, as it's more common elsewhere to have false or different types of usernames. I honestly feel that the majority of mylotters are honest decent people, who actually do care and would be willing to talk to you if you needed help. For myself mylot as been a great source of friendship. I haven't been apart of a community that I feel more integrated than I do here at mylot.

To an extent my screen name is who I am.... Although I wish I could change it now to reflect who I am now. Its angelsmummy, because one of my daughters is named Angel, but since I joined I have had another daughter... I am happy to put a picture of myself up but I really like the avatar that I have and have no intention to change it. I am being sincere in my responses, all you have to do is go through what I have responded to and you will see that I am sincere, I have no reason to lie or be somebody that I am not.

We are all real!! Well I know I am - I just pinched myself and it hurt Most people on forums have a 'user name' or 'pen name' there is nothing sinister in that. As regards to the avatars, I mainly use my picture but I do sometimes have a change - in fact I am considering putting on a picture of my new granddaughter today, many people use pictures of hobbies or pets, it is a personal preference.

Well, I don't think it is a very good idea to use your real full name on forums where you interact with people you do not know in real life, to be honest, because you never know who reads it. So for safety reasons it is something I avoid and I totally understand that others do too. My pic is of me though!

It isn't being insencere that we are using aliases. It could be the person is not used to it sharing his personal information, he wants a little mystery about his real identity or he doesn't want that his privacy would be invaded. Do you think those people who are using their real names are already sincere? And do you think those people whom youive already known are sincere with you because you already know their real identity?

For what it is worth, I AM MsTickle here and my smiling face on the avatar is who I am. What difference would it make to you if you knew my real name. I could put a real photo of someone else and use a name not real but who I am is reflected in what I say. My user name and my avatar are simply a tool I use and definitely no mask. I just prefer to protect my actual identity. I have no problem with anyone doing that.

My friend, all people here in mylot is real. They are not fictitious or robot. Most people also here are using aliases or AKA if that is understood to you... If people here is not human, they will not answer as I did today. The site also banned for robot here. Because the aim of the site will provide people with extra income not those cheated people... Have a nice day!

Most people want their own privacy, therefore they hide their identity. Some people shame to show their real face. Cause in some country, the face still valuable rather then the brain. This is not a dating site, it's a forum and the members come from whole world. So the chance to meet are so low.

Hi, I used "redstard" as my name in mylot, actually i also used it in all my others account on the internet, I like this name bacause I used it since I surf the internet first time. It is impossible to use my real name on the internet for me, it's private information, but I could say I am a really really people here~~

Everyone here on MyLot is real, bots can't write those kind of responses, all this is wroten by humans just like you and me and all. And the fact of using nicks and hide our real name is not propietary to MyLot, but all internet forums are the same. I see it's a matter of privacy. Internet is an inherently insecure space. Sharing our opinions is ok, but let everyone in the world know about our name, daily life and costumes is different. The first bad side I see is that others may use that info against you. For example, you comment on a forum with your real name that X day you'll go to a party, and a thief reads that. He knows that your home will be alone for him to "work". Cibercrime does exist too. Many people try to guess passwords of emails, forums, paypals, banks account based on personal data, and many actually succed. Online identity hijacking is another thing that can happen. On the personal side, I don't like to let anyone know intimate details of my life, even personal data. As in real life, when I just met new people, I don't tell everything on the first day, but only when I'm confident enough. So on online forums, I reserve those kind of info for my friends, and only on MSN after chating a lot.
