I usually have leg cramps and I was wondering if there is a food that can help me prevent this from happening again. No medicines please just all-natural food. Thanks.

Hi there franne, Muscle cramps can actually affect anyone, whether you are a regular exerciser or a couch potato.. Mostly, muscles that are over-worked or injured and exposed to extreme temperatures are more likely to suffer from cramps.. The simplest way to help prevent cramps to occur is drinking lots of water because cramps is caused by some factors which include dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and mineral deficiency.. Also, eat Magnesium-rich foods. Pumpkin is the richest source of Magnesium, so you might want to add this vegetable to your diet..Almonds, Spinach, Cashew nuts and Soybeans are rich in Magnesium too.. Also included are Peanuts, Oats, white beans, Black beans, Hazelnut, Brown rice and Tuna.. So I suggest you include these foods on your diet to help prevent muscle cramps.. Hope it'll help.. Happy myLotting!

Yeah I think it's because of overworking the leg muscles. Thanks for the advice, it's probably because I don't drink enough water a day that I get those cramps. It's good that I love pumpkins, I'll try that. Thanks again.

Try eating bananas and kiwis and drinking real orange juice. It might be a lack of potassium and these fruts are the very thing. Some people say that drinking coke helps but I would not call that "natural". It can also be that you lead a sedentary life. So try to take a small walk, as brisk as you can, every evening. Check that your blankets arenĀ“t too heavy.

I had horrible leg cramps before at night..when my daughter was in gymnastics, she started to have them too. Potassium is apprently a huge culprit where leg cramps are concerned. I asked my doctor and she told me either potassium pills or bananas would really help me. Well...I'm not very good at taking pills, do I tried to keep bananas in the house all the time. I can't even tell you the last time we had leg cramps. The bananas really did the trick for us.

I used to get muscle cramps when I was lying down at night so I starting taking a calcium and magnesium supplement which has helped. And Tonic water. It has an ingredient in it,quinine, I think, which is know to prevent muscle cramps.

The first responder did have some really helpful tips. However, eating a diet that has enough potassium can also help to avoid cramping, especially if you are exercising on a regular basis. The body uses potassium during exercise, so it is important to replenish the supply by eating foods such as bananas, oranges (or orange juice), beets or brussel sprouts just to name a few.
