That is just crazy! is this new? I just went to check and yes all my friends phone numbers are there. What right does Facebook have to display our phone number, I mean we shouldn't put our phone number on Facebook anyway, but still many people do. And Facebook is suppose to be responsible in Keeping our privacy safe.

Okay, I just thought everyone would like to know that the "Phonebook" feature has been around for a rather long time.. Your number will not appear unless you enter it into your contact information or (I think) activating Facebook Mobile/ Facebook SMS. And of course, the only people who can see your mobile/home/work numbers are your friends, unless you make it public knowledge, by default. Just heads up :)

Yeah, I'm a bit of a Facebook addict and remember that last year when my phone broke, I used Facebook as a backup - getting my friend's contact information when available. Sometimes it's convenient, other times you wonder why that guy you rarely talk to is trying to call you constantly. I keep up to date with Facebook's news, and if there's something I really don't like, I'll eventually stopped using it. As far as the phone issue goes, don't post a home number - one can do a reverse search and it will show them your address, so I think it's safer to just put a mobile, or if one doesn't want that out, don't put anything. The only issue I have with Facebook is that it gives you the option to activate your account (So you can post on pages and events) with a credit card. Especially because when you log in, you are entering a non-secure area. I'm 18 and don't have a credit card myself, but what about the people who do? It's a major concern of mine.

I have my facebook account and have set my privacy settings. thanks you for the information oldchem. "facebook" itself is really a public site, so be careful of everything you post about personal matters. =)

You are so right, I do cringe at times at some of the things people put on Facebook!!

Thanks for letting me know, It's quite hard to change the setting as well it took me a while to find the page to do it. You'd have thought facebook would have notified people themselves and told everyone how to change the setting. [em]angry/em]

Everyone should quit Facebook because it has too many problems and has become an unsafe online environment.

I'm still very wary of it, I had someone 'stalking' me who made up a name very similar to mine and had my home town, etc on and made friends with friends and families of mine - a bit scary!!

I don't feel as though it's unsafe; and sure, it has some problems, but what big site doesn't, ya know? I mean, there's always the risk of being hacked on any site. As far as predators and stalkers go, there are privacy settings so that only certain people are allowed to view content, and if I don't know a person who is adding me, I refuse the request. These steps can be taken on most sites; Myspace, twitter, mocospace, and the like.

Yes, this is terrible. One of my FB friends posted this in their status and I went directly to my account and fixed it. This is scary that something as wide spread as FB can know our phone numbers. We seem to have all the privacy boxes checked of, but then this comes along. Unbelievable!

I have set my privacy to only me, no one can't see all my data. Even my email address I keep hiding from others. Lucky me if I forget to hide my phone number. Cause the phone number have been broken right now. So, no need to be afraid about it. But thanks for the info.

I have just checked my Facebook page but I don't see anything like what you said. Fortunately I never give my real phone number in those kinds of websites, as they're known for making a non wise use of our data. That is something that I find despicable, as if when we first sign we check privacy options to avoid people getting our data easily, they shouldn't change that just as they please.

There were only about 8 of my friends whose numbers were being shown , the others had already altered their settings. As you say though, Facebook seem to be able to change as th choose andare quite a law unto themselves.

I have a facebook account but I never filled in the address/contact numbers and as for the email address, it's an alternative one because every notification we get on facebook sends an email to my email so it's a pain. we should all be cautious of our passwords too because it's very important.

It is quite frightening when you think how much of our information could be got from our on line accounts if we were not careful!

I'd noticed this thing a year ago but I did not give a damn because I'm not interested calling them and ?I did not put my own phone number i my profile because I have none.LOL But I think it pays to be very careful with what we are putting in our profile to avoid inconvenience in the future...
