Were you ever asked to stand in a corner?

I remember my school days when the nuns had a set of punishments to those who disobeyed or did not do their home work. The worst was when we were asked to stay out in the corridor where we had the fear that the Principal would pass by and so also those from other classes subjecting us to the worst humiliation ever. What kind of punishment did you get when in school?

I've been experiencing that too during my elementary. hehehehe It's funny to remember to stand in front of the class because I was not able to answer the question gave by my teacher. I also experienced "sit on the air" (bending your knees like sitting in the air with arms forward) for doing bad in class hours. I don't even regret for doing that. At least I experienced funny moments in class. That time was so fun until now I can still laugh when I remember it.

In our times we were asked to either stand up on the bench or get out of the class. It happened with me so many times. Very often we were punished for no fault whatsoever.

One punishment is which I would never ever forget in my life. I had been studying in a school , [from LKG]run by some Christians. I was a reigning queen here, participated in all cultural programs , always used to play the part of an angel and used to recite some verses very well. I was always first in class and became school captain too in my fourth standard.[me]wink[/me].sO, I had had a very happy cosetted life here , cherished and praised by all. In fourth standard my father put me in a superior convent , an ancient well known institution run by nuns. Actually, I was quite bewildered by the environment, the timid creature that I was.In fact my father remarked at home ‘this one looks like a meek little lamb amidst fat, fierce tigers’ there. Till then I was unaware of the existence of a subject called 'needlework' and there was one nun Sr.Ursula[a stern dark lady with sterner eyes and a loud voice]and one day I was happily fiddling with an unfinished piece of class work [in needlework class] and could no t submit it ,when she summoned me. When she asked me the reason I told her "Sister ! I don't know backstitch' and what do I get--one tight slap on my tender cheek. This left me stunned . I honestly did not know back stitch because I had never done much sewing before. This needlework became my nightmare after that. Thankfully, in my ninth standard I could run away from it because there was an option of choosing Trigonometry or needlework. But, the dark face of the Sr.Ursula is etched in memory for ever.
