Here's to those avid readers! Who was your favorite author, or favorite series when you were a kid/young adult? Why did you like it? did you relate to the characters better than those around you?

My favorite author when I started to read was Jules Verne. There was so much room for my imagination, and it got me hooked up on science fiction books for a long time. The books didn't have very strong characters I could relate to, but the action was great.

I was an avid reader of The Nancy Drew Series when I was in elementary school. Thus, my favorite author was Carolyn Keene, the author credited in this series of novels. Or so I thought....I just found out recently, literally recently now in my 30s, that Carolyn Keene was not a real person, it was just a pseudonym. And to my surprise, the author of Nancy Drew is not just one person. It is a group. The publisher works with different individual authors. What I really liked about Nancy Drew was her sense of adventure and guts. As a young kid, we aspired for that, so Nancy Drew was a role model.

When I was a kid my favorite series was "Chronicles of Narnia" and now I'm 19 and I still love it! lol I don't think there's any reason an adult should stop reading children's books. My favorite author was Bruce Coville. I had loads of books by him and I was constantly looking for more. Now I look back and I still find books that I haven't read by him! My favorite series by him is "The Unicorn Chronicles". Yeah, I related to the characters better than the people around me. My best friends with those of fiction. Not so much anymore, but books still remain a huge part of my life.

I actually just finished for the first time the Narnia series. I do not know why I did not get to them when I was younger. they were right up my ally as a reader. I read a few of Bruce Covilles, my favorite being My Teacher is an Alien.

Better late than never! Did you enjoy them? I loved My Teacher is an Alien. I was pretty convinced at least one of mine was too.

My favourite book when I was a child was Frances Hodgson Burnett's "A Little Princess." I re-read this recently and recalled so much of it, though I hadn't read it for over ten years. I very much relate to Sara, the little princess in the attic.

THere was one point where I had read all of the Nancy Drew books, by Carolyn Keene(actually a series of authors using the pen name). I also read close to a hundred Babysitter's club books. Since working as a teacher, i have a few new favorites from reading to the kids. I really like Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhuge. I just started re-reading it today.
