Have you ever exchange mail or emails with friends from other countries. No bad emails but things that would be of interest..things about your culture etc. I owe a good friend of mine a letter.. who is out of the country but with all the set backs of the previous year am a year behind on my penpal exchange. I would love to get some penpals .. from other countries..wouldn't you?

I had a Japanese penpal for a while, and that was awesome! It was mainly awesome because I was learning Japanese at the time (in high school) and it was so cool to see someone write in Japanese, to me, and me actually understand it! (Well, I had to use my dictionary for a lot of the things..But yeah!). Honestly, it was nice, because I never really got a chance to practice with 'real' people, besides classmates or professors in high schoool/college!

Sounds like you had a great experience with penpals. You even picked up a better understanding of the Japanese Language. How did you get in touch the first time with your penpal?

I had a bad experience with the one pen pal I had and I lost interest after that. But my parents were pen pals (same country here) and they met, hit it off, married and here I am

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with penpals. Iguess there is always a danger that the person is not good who is becoming a penpal.

Once when I was at school my french teacher got my class to write letters to some french kids but i wasn't all that interested in it. I have been in contact via letter with some very good online friends and that's something I try to do as often as possible but mostly it's communication on facebook or e-mails. Sending letters isn't all that popular these days and in the uk we have a major issue with post getting lost or damaged.

Hi, When I was young, I did have some penpals, but all from same country with me,just from different states. But after been correspondenced for few years, suddenly, we stopped writing to each other and then that was the end of our friendship. Nothing happened between us...but then it just happened suddenly and I also busy with my school works and as time pastby, I really have no time to write a letter again. Now, I don't have any penpals but I would like to have one if there is a chance. It is great to have some friends from abroad which I can learn their culture and exchange our ideas,I believe people living in another country will have different thinking from me too.

I guess one would have to be careful too with securing a penpal. How does one know who the other person is?

I have never had a pen pal from another country but it would be good to have one. I could learn about their culture and their country.

I agree..there is so much to learn from other cultures. I wish there was a penpal site .that was not related to trying to hook up. Most sites that say penpals are trying to match people as couples.
