How to manage your boss in tough situations?

Assume that you got a boss who continuously ask you status reports. This will definitely hinder you in your routine works.
In such a situation what you will do?
I will definitely tell him frankly to stop asking continuous status reports since my work is hindering.

I guess I've never been put in a situation where this has happened to me. Is it necessary for him to ask for status reports all the time? Perhaps it is, and you should abide by what he's saying and give him the information he (or she) wants - because they are, after all, your boss/manager, and you generally have to follow their rules (as unfortunate as that is!)
