Just from reading the title, what do you think the reasons are for the high rate of divorce and break-ups in the Anerican society? What do you think the solutions could be for this problem?

Yes I have heard about this statistic before: Fifty percent of all first marriages in the US end up in divorce. Some people say that this statistic is actually not true but actually pretty close. I think the divorce rates in developed countries tend to be higher than those in developing countries. In developed countries, women have gone through emancipation and have jobs of their own. Therefore, it makes sense if the divorce rates are high because they can support themselves without depending on their husband. I live in a developing country. While the divorce statistic is lower here, I see some marriages where the relation between husbands and wives are already bad. They are practically divorced already and yet they stay married and still live under the same roof. Some women even get beatings (domestic violence) from their husband. This is mostly true for low income families where women don't have any other choice but depend on their husband for livelihood.

People in America don't take anything seriously anymore. We go into marriage with the idea that we can just get divorced if it doesn't work out. People move from one relationship to another before they have even had the chance to figure out what went wrong with the last one. It isn't the marriage that is the problem, it's the couple that is involved in it. For every marriage that falls apart there are two people that need to fix some issues. I have been with the same man for more than 22 years and we have been through more than most couples could even imagine but I have been determined to work things out and honor our marriage vows. I would never put up with abuse but I do know marriages are work and that is what I am willing to do to keep ours together.

Divorced is everywhere,if it happens that US has the highest rate it is becoz the country is well known for liberated people. One reason for separation is,people doesn't consider love seriously and marriage is a piece of paper. If only people know the value of marriage vows then maybe divorced and separation seldom happens. There are lot's and different reason for couples to resort into divorced, but some couples jump easily into it just becoz of nonsense reasons. So sad to think that, people consider themselves as educated ones but, they never consider marriage as holy and divine.
