hi my male cat jasper is a yr old and a very active cat, he goes outside at around 7am and is in and out on most days til about 7pm, hunts things, plays with other cats etc and when i bring him in for the night we also play with him some more, quite active, he will chase a long piece of grass or something with feathers all day if u let him, he plays for about 30 minutes and then we leave him to potter about and settle down for the night. my problem is he is a rescue cat and when we first got him i started him off on 3 pouches of food a dayand he weighed just under 3 kg, he seemed to just get greedier and greedier lol so i had him dewormeed, this didnt change anything and its not as if he is bored, his bowl is licked clean after every single pouch he never leaves a drop, he sits by his empty bowl and cries for food, looks from the food pouches, to me, to his empty bowl lol. im very tempted to just give him a extra pouch a day even know the packet says 3 a day for his weight, which is just over 3kg now. but surely if one cat is lazy and sleeps a lot and the other really active like my cat the food requirements would be different????? im just worried he is gonna end up a very fat cat tht cant move much and i know he would hate that because he loves to play and run about. before i add the extra pouch though im wondering if anyone has any ideas on what i can try, maybe a different brand of food thats more filling or a mixture of biscuit and pouch tht isnt gonna put too much weight on him. im based in the uk and he has whiskas pouches.

Actually, this is a common problem with a lot of rescue animals. They have gone through a period where they did not get enough food and now they try to eat everything in sight and still ask for more. If he is active, then the amount the directions say is the correct amount. My cats are less active and they only eat about 1/2 - 3/4 of the amount the directions specify and they maintain their weight well. With a rescue cat, when he sees his dish is empty, he is worried that that was all there was and there isn't going to be anymore. What you might try for a couple of weeks is this - get one of the feeders for the dry food which let the food go into the bowl as the food in the bowl is eaten and fill it up. Leave this out and available for him. Then, give him one pouch of the whiskas once a day. He may try to over eat the first few days; but, most cats will stop eating if they are full and can see that there is plenty of food left for later. He may even eat to the point where he throws up. Don't worry that is normal and he should stop that in just a couple of days. Once he is secure about the fact that the food will always be there, he should stop crying for more food. Very few cats will eat to the point of obesity; and, if he does seem to be getting fat then you can restrict his food to the 3 pouches per day until his weight goes back to normal.

hi thank you for that very good advice, i meant rescue cat as in i got him from the cats and dogs home, but before there he had been with the same family and their daughter had become allergic to cats and so they took him to the home, he was in good condition. on his chart though it did say that he was food orientated, so i guess maybe he just a greedy cat, the biscuit feeder thing is a good idea though i mite try that. :-)

For me it is nature of the cat always want to eat so don't worry if your cat always wanted to eat something.
